Flying sword is definitely a special case, not good for every situation. For example, if you only have 1 opponent, or/and if you are not limited to 1 sword, or/and if the sword is retractable through a rope tied to the hilt, it won't be that "unwise".
Sometimes it's worth the risk, especially if the opponent is armed with polearms when one has only a sword to deal with. It all depends on the circumstances. It's not a good-for-all tactic.
