I have been fighting for 20 years. I bought a pair of Grettr gauntlets last year. Best I've ever used - period.

I spoke with Grettr over two years ago about a set and I was apparently forgotten.

Just have to keep in touch with him. A once-a-month AA message is all you need.

contact cementing your gloves stitching will make them last much longer.
I have also started coating the whole glove with a light coat of contact cement to increase durability.
I supply a medieval group that fights two handed weapons more than sword and board and have gotten some interesting results regarding durability.

this all has to do with glove durability and avoiding regloving when your gloves get conformable and worn in.
I have always contacted the seams of my all my gloves and I have used contact cemented glove palms in the shop for ages.
so the gauntlet glove seams were holding fine but the EMP guys were wearing holes in the leather.
I started coating the wear surface with contact cement and then a couple of coats of leather conditioner to reduce the stickiness.
although there were complaints about stiffness initially... they feel fine after a few days of use.
I recommended wearing them around the house for a while.
seems to increase the leather life span but I wont know by how long until time passes.
also make sure to keep the gloves conditioned dry leather wears faster when it is gets wet and dries over and over.

For anybody interested, I'm currently working on a run of 8 pairs in spring tempered 4130, 4 pairs of which are spoken for. You can pm me through the Archive or just give me a call on my cell @ 412-400-3025 .

As of yesterday all the gauntlets in this run are spoken for. I will hope to start next run by the end of July.

My only issue with my finger gunats was maintaining them. It was such a pain to constantly clean all the little metal bits and regloving them was just a HUGE annoyance.

I used mitten gauntlets for years, fighting with a spear at war and throwing axes and javelins, and was happy with them. Throwing missiles is more difficult with mitten gauntlets but the protection they offer is top notch. A few years ago I was able to do a trade here on the archive for a set of finger gauntlets and I love them for war but your fingers can take a serious beating. I don't lend my finger gauntlets out to my new guys as they tend to get their fingers hurt/smashed almost instantly but with my old mitten gauntlets they can fight all day long.
So to sum up; If you are a newer fighter I would strongly suggest mitten gauntlets. If you are an experienced fighter who can choose not to block with their hands then finger gauntlets are the way to go.

I can't say enough good things about Andy Ward's clamshell gauntlets. I bought a second pair just on the off chance I ever lost the first one.

Talk to Grettr. He will send you the test drive pair to try.
