This is an almost done project I am working on. What do you guys think? I might put a thrusty on it as it wont take much more foam on top. Maybe a butt spike?

It is an axe, not a Swiss army knife. just take the way it is in the pic and learn to use it...I have one about like that and love the thing.

I'd put a butt spike and a thrusting tip on it- logic being in period, with its real counterpart. you would have the option of thrusting with the lead point of the blade or jamming the butt into someones face or solar plexes. Without putting those on the SCA version of the weapon, you lose those options and as a result lose some of the potential depth of the weapon form and further retard the realism of our game. I reuse to believe that in period people only hit the other guy with the bladed portion of a two handed axe. Also, even if you don't use them, it is another level of threat your opponents need to consider. Finally, lets face it- with things like indestructible shields, people calling padded weapons funny and such, why put yourself at more of a disadvantage than you have to, especially if it sacrifices realism to do so?
Anyway, thats my take on it. Either way, looks good- have fun with it!

I have used a short axe like this in the past.
Mine has an old mandrake rubber head on it, making it somewhat slow.
But it strikes with what is best described as authority.
As Graf Hans has said, learn to use it as is.
Its a wonderful weapon but if you try to over complicate it you will lose some of its benefit and effect.
If you need a close order weapon for thrusting whilst in the bind, make yourself a dagger and a good quick draw rig, practice with it a lot.
Get good at gacking someone who has gotten inside your primary range.
Duke Avery did this to me on a bridge a while back.
He had a spear and I thought I had him dead to rights...
Well there is a lesson in that.
Most importantly, have fun with it.

I use axes on a semi regular basis. Usually bigger ones. This one is a fun toy I used to fight with all the time, but I shorted the blade when the original head died. That was a sad day. So I decided to try a new flavor of small death axe. Ill let you all know how well it works as soon as my shoulder armor is back on.

I've not been active in too long, but back in the 90's in these parts the four foot axe had a thrusting tip and a butt spike. It was fought one-handed with the hand just below the blade.

I kinda have a fondness for my axe, about this size.

Mine has a butt spike but no thrusting tip.
Also... you ever slung a real steel one around? I did, and it made a huge difference in how I fought the rattan one.
