What I think a Team USA needs is more playmates to practice with. From the interest I'm seeing various places online they might get it. Team USA is the 4th largest team and covers an area the size of Europe. That makes it hard to get practices training going. More interested people would also create a bigger pool to fill team slots with.
My impression is that to the Pols, Rus, and Belarus, this is a medievalist fighters Olympics. They have many groups fighting this or similar type system and have qualifying tournaments to select their national team. It also means they are more invested in this completion. Which, I think, shows in their fighting. Particularly, the Russians.
Team USA seems to be doing okay for first timers and having a good shakedown run. It will be interesting to see what lessons they come back with.

It looks like the biggest weakness is the mind. If a fighter is out of sight, they are out of mind, and what you can't see really can hurt you. Team USA did really well here in part because that knight (white belt) with the axe (ooo...nice axe) on the right dodged right and then did broken field running and blindsided two fighters on the other teams what were engaged with their Team USA equals.

That was GREAT!

WELL DONE SIR GASTON!!!!!

And thank you Alvar for letting me know who that knight is.

Hummmm....two minutes to midnight and I'm STARTING to feel sleepy. Maybe it's time to attempt to nap.

With thanks to everybody here,

I liked this fight!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQM9ncXv ... s7aCNh3mog

Nissan plowed one into the ground (on the right, 0.32), then another into fence (on the left, 0.35) and into the ground with a judo throw (0.36) and then pancakes into the ground with another (on the left, 0.40) because the other fellow was bending over to dodge a blow from the USA Team knight (on the left). I don't know if Nissan was actually called "down" on that because the camera angle is bad. I'm not sure if they fell together or it just looks like that.

Anyway, GOOD JOB BOSS!

Looks like Nissan was down. The marshal touches him with his staff then later after the camera pans out you can see him kneeling.

Oh! They're repairing the fencing that was VERY tough! That fence survived longer than quite a few of the fighters, and took WAY more hits without getting a chance to strike back. Watching how it was made might be important.

Lots of umbrellas in the stands. This might be a mud-pit battle. Traction might be important.

Battle of Agincourt next? I just saw the horses pass (and probably dropped stuff) and it's raining....and the 5 vs. 5 and 21 vs. 21 battles are scheduled. This could be very interesting. If you slip with nobody around to push you, are you still down?

Now MORE horses to turn that sod into mud and muck. And more rain from the looks of it.

I pray Team USA has a rest today and can just watch the mudfest with glee. This looks like a SCA marshal's nightmare in the works. Uneven ground, rain, horse maure, rain, mud, bad rock bad (tinny), rain, wrestling, steel blades and teams.

What astounds me is that in less than a minute from "Lay On" Nissan had three guys (probably all younger than him) down. That is an amazing feat of arms (and legs to run that far, that fast) IMO.

Round 2 ended the same way. Russia in both waited for the USA to make the first move. Which was funny in the first round with the announcer saying "fight, Fight, Fight!" while both side stared at each other waiting for the other to attack.

Both Russia vs USA looked to be a 3-1 loss, 3-1 loss, but second round may have had a yellow card issued, I couldnt see my feed skipped.

May have been a yellow card, I have a bit of a language barrier keeping me for understanding completely. One of the russians failed to stop even with a marshals flag draped over his eyeslots.

If they did rec. a yellow card & they have 2 Red cards from the previous 2 days as reported on Fb, that would eliminate the entire Russian team!

or that's what I've heard on Fb at least.

But in the 5v5 the russians have 3 teams and I can not imagine that all 3 would be eliminated. But then my russian is as bad as my polish.

Ok just started watching again when the matches before the US came up, so not sure if anyone before US did this. But loved watching our guys not go to the sides and made the other team come out to them to fight. And now seeing all the other teams doing the same thing. :)

No, that's just it, the entire team would be eliminated. All of them. Or at least that was my understanding from the mutliple facebook threads following the BotN. It may be a flawed understanding as it does seem harsh, but there you are.

Penalties are described halfway down the following page:
http://bnfest.pl/index.php?option=com_k ... =9&lang=en

Looks like the Whole Team is only eliminated if the members accumulate two red cards and then a warning. Any member with two yellow card, equal to one red card, or a red card is eliminated from the completion and his team (melee team?) has to fight without him with no substitution.

Except that to ban an entire soccer team would take 11 red cards (or enough yellow cards to obtain the same effect).
I still think this applies to the 5man team (total of 8 with maximum amount of substitutes) and not to the entire Russian contigent. That allso makes it more important to differentiate between what team and not only nationality that got the penalty.
