Well pointed out Count Johnathan, and well done Team USA.Count Johnathan wrote:Looks like the attitude of the USA team has rubbed off a bit on those guys. I see a lot more "good sportsmanship" or chivalry if you like than when the event started.
This is a good thing IMO.
If I hadn't watched the fight I would have thought the same. They were carrying people around on their shoulders and dancing around quite a bit. Celebrating being there, I guess.Galvyn Lockhart wrote:Ah, the description of the Polish team climbing up on the fence following their match sounded like a victory celebration. Thanks.
Sorry, man. Video streaming goes all wonky for me anytime the US takes the field so I'm catching the fights in drips and drabs. What I caught of the Poland fight looked like they came out slow in two spread lines with units stacked on our right end. The US made a quick move down that side along the fence (couldn't tell if it was the front guys or the reserves) blew up their backfield and circled in behind the main Polish force. The left side started moving out a little after the right went and then joined up and hit the back as well, meanwhile the rest of the US front line played a soft refusal.Aaron wrote:BTW, youtube highlights would be nice if anybody has them from today. The Team USA win in the 21 vs. 21 would be nice.

Someone on FB said that Lucan was out and Jade was still in.Galvyn Lockhart wrote:By the time the live feed came up, it appeared that only Lucan was left in the final four. In his bout against (I think) a Polish fighter, it appeared that Lucan dominated the great sword bout, uncertain about the sword & buckler bout, & lost the sword & shield bout. He appeared pretty gassed by the end too. Judges awarded it to the Polish fighter.
edit - it s/b pointed out that he fought a great fight!
BTW - I hope someone from Team USA is inviting all of these guys to Pennsic this year to check out our ver. of armoured combat. That would be a hoot!
That's good to know. Thanks! There was some confusion about what was going on over there earlier this morning on Facebook. It would be great if one of our guys were to win the 1v1.Sir Patrick O'Malley wrote: Someone on FB said that Lucan was out and Jade was still in.
I think they need more pole weapons. Which I see team 3 had. A big lever with a smashy bit is much better than a big shield in these engagements.Rey wrote:I don't think the Big Heater Shields are the way to go in the future. Seems like they are getting hung on everything and people are using them against the players.

Well, it's been an awsome experience here. All three American Champions (including me) won enough points to make it to the last 16, and Jaye made it to the final 8. One of our 5 man teams made it deep into the 2nd round, and our 21 man team had a victory against the top ranked Polish team. We've been told that we made a good impression, and the other teams are amazed at our s...kill and prowess as a first year team.
While we all would have loved to have won more matches, we have all learned so much, and I am very proud of our team. The rest of the teams are taking us very seriously now, and we have definitely won some great respect for the USA's medieval combat skills.
Personally, I had a blast fighting over here, and look forward to training this style and taking another shot at it...
yeah, I've been trying to get decent views of how it's constructed from the videos. It looks like close to 6 or 8 foot modular sections. The uprights and rails look to be close to our 4x4s but do look a tad smaller. The diagonals look to be close to our 2x4s. The rear supports look to be close to our 2x4 and are a separate unit bolted onto the back of the fence. The whole thing about 4 feet tall or so. Obviously they wouldn't be using our dimensional lumber sizes....Michael_of_Sternfeld wrote:I am even more impressed by the fence as it withstood the entire Polish 21 team climbing onto it after their match with Russia.
However, it would be a pain to transport...
Socializing is very good. This was Team USA's first time out, and while they have experience in other forms of fighting, this form is different. Sort of like taking a champion motocross team and putting them into NASCAR without even having drove stick shift before. The learning curve was STEEP for Team USA from what I saw, and the learned really, really quickly, but were at a disadvantage due to this being the first try.Dante della Luna wrote:According to somebody on the team (I forgot who), they will be in the all vs. all battle, but will be spending most of the day at the merchants and socializing with the other teams.
Duke Ice posted this in the BOTN facebook group, along with quite a bit more.Dante della Luna wrote:According to somebody on the team (I forgot who), they will be in the all vs. all battle, but will be spending most of the day at the merchants and socializing with the other teams.
Well, the fighting for the US team is officially over. There will be some group melee and some may fight in this but for the most part, our fighters have given their all.
