Good day,
I am most pleased to announce that in October this year Core Life Concepts in conjunction with me will host a weekend long seminar presenting an introduction to the art of armoured combat with the halfsword.
In attending this seminar, students will develop a firm grasp of the fundamentals of halfsword combat, and will be able to more easily interpret the texts for themselves through their developed understanding of the central principles of the art.
The seminar will run from the 6th to the 8th of October (Friday evening and all day Saturday/Sunday), at Greensborough College, Greensborough (Melbourne).
The seminar is aimed at both those who have prior experience in historical martial arts and those without. The seminar will introduce the context of fighting with a shortened sword as presented in martial manuscripts from 15th century Germany. Students will then learn techniques from across the corpus of extant written and illustrated material, all the time exploring and developing their understanding of the central tenets of the Liechtenauer tradition of fencing.
Students will require only rugged comfortable clothing, stout gloves and a fencing mask. For those with armour from SCA, re-enactment or WMA backgrounds, they are most welcome to bring and wear their harnesses. Masks may* be sourced for those that do not have or cannot source their own mask. Training weapons (handmade wooden wasters) will be provided for (and used by) all participants, to ensure all students have uniform training tools. Students may choose to keep their wasters at the end of the course at no charge.
Due to the facilities, and the need to ensure an ideal ratio of students to instructors, places will be limited to 16 students. If there is enough interest, a repeat may be arranged for those that were not able to attend this seminar.
Halbschwert I 2012 will be the first of a number of seminars on armoured and unarmoured combat from the 15th and 16th centuries to be hosted by Core Life Concepts over the coming years.
For additional information and to reserve a place on this course, see:

We look forward to the opportunity to introduce this exciting, beautiful and brutal art of combat with a sword in armour. It is an experience not to be missed.
(*this is not guaranteed and is based on first in, best-masked. If you do not have a mask or cannot borrow one, please contact Core Life Concepts prior to booking)

This event is now less than two months away. There are still a few positions available if anyone is interested.
