Is that a bargrilled helm? Thats awesome! Obviously, there are alot of folks with aventailed kettle helms, but you're really has the "right" profile. The false chinstrap really adds to the look too.

Yes it's grilled. Dave at Aesir really out did himself with the dimensions on this one. I have the exact same measurements as he does so he was able to get it super close without putting my head in any danger whatsoever.

hahahahaha!
it does.
that was something that came up. Jackie's is a beautiful hat, but for obvious reasons i wouldn't trade mine for the world. not only that, mine came with a couple of weekends in the actual belly of the beast. I got to swing a hammer on that thing. that makes is something special.

sorry. i was being vague. for clarification.
this particular purchase from Aesir came with the opportunity to go into the shop and work with the master. the fact that i actually got to create part of this helmet makes it something amazing. kinda makes me a part of the process.
add to that the fact that my helmet is like a second skin due to the similarity between my head and that of Master Dongal, and i couldn't have hoped for a better result.
hope that clears up my previous statement.

Not a problem I have been just been to touchy here lately. I have messed up on more work then I like

and just not feel well and it just tuck what you said wrong, sorry

So how did you guys hook the aventail under the brim

I know that can be a pain.
Cheers
Jackie
PS. You guys did a great job.

attachment under the brim was a bit of a nightmare. so far it is done in the same fashion as just about every other helm i have ever seen, one strap of leather attached to the cheek plates, and in this case tied into place. the big problem i have been having is getting the very particular "occular" look that is in the Osprey book that inspired the helm. I can't figure how to make the aventail do the things i want it to. i have talked nicely to it, taken it out to dinner, i even bought it a fancy new helmet, and it still won't do what i want.
hopefully i will be taking a few pics tonight that will clarify the aventail attachment, and the headaches it has been giving me.

How's the visibility with that? I saw progress pics of Dave working on this helm and decided I had to have one (someday...

), I've got an Aesir helm, the quality is stellar.

the visibility is limited by the aventail, but it is something i am used to. i thought i was going to have a problem with the brim cutting off my ablity to see things coming in from above, but so far it hasn't been a problem. overall i really don't notice a whole lot of difference between it and my conical.

you would have to ask atlantia amouries for a correct answer, but to my eye it seems to be expanded ring.

I think that if you want to mimic the artist expression you need a aventail that is longer front and back than sideways. I have the same problem on my helmet from Shamrock- its looks right when it hangs on a stand, but when I put it on my headmovements make it shorter front and back. I just decided that its the way it is. I have a long stainless Master Knuut aventail on my helmet, and it could have been 2 inches longer front and back to look more like picture.
