I bought my new Jousting Stallion today - Masone fan SF

Today I took the plunge and bought a new stallion to joust with. "Masone fan SF", or just "Mason"
Here he is:

That is him and his mom, Tamarinde. Don't mind the brown. He spent too much time out in the sun this summer and is a little sun bleached. He'll end up pitch black like both parents.
Not what you expected ? Well, he'll be ready by the time I'll be ready.
For those who know Friesians he is a colt out of Wybren 464 x Sander 269, and his dam Tamarinde is out of Stam line 128, and is Star Preferent(almost Crown Jewel)+Star+Star Preferent+Model.
FYI, Toby Capwell jousts with a Friesian stallion.
I'm starting to think that the Nazi racial purists were really never defeated in WWII, they just moved to Holland and took up Friesian horse breeding
Here is a video of his daddy Wybren in action

If he comes even close to his daddy, I'll be happy.

I know nothing about horses but damn that is impressive to watch. I'm jealous up to the point of seeing how much it costs to feed and house him... good luck and I hope he bears you well

Excellent; enjoy your midlife crisis.
Nice action at the trot for Daddy; seems like he has a smooth canter. Despite my gf's whinging about how they never approve Baroque type stallions any more, there might be something to this new-style Friesian after all...
...and if you ever take him to the keuring out here, let me know...

Toby's horse Duke is a gelding.
Dom's horse Hawthorne is a Friesan/Cob stallion.

Thanks Jeff, I knew one of them was a stallion, I just mixed them up.
When I got interested in Mason, it was because of his conformation (looks) and his movement. Then looking at his father, and mother I realized the serious potential that was there. I wanted a good all around horse. Something we could use for trail riding, saddle seat shows same as our saddlebred, and of course.... for the JOUST !
Check out his baby video at 4 months old. Notice the very start where he challenges the camera operator. Definitely has some spunk and personality for a cold blood.

Then I started researching his breeding, and how the Friesian world worked. His breeder, Signature Friesians, owns 1 of approximately 20 approved breeding stallions in the US (not his father) and regular stands other approved stallions at their facility; out of around 8,000 total active registered horses in the US. There are a lot of variables, and it is somewhat like buying a lottery ticket, but the breeder thought he had a good shot at getting Approved Stallion status and I had to sign a contract stating that I would take him to the testing process.
Notice that he has the same head and neck as his father, and the same very powerful rear movement of his father. Very rare and something you can not teach to a horse. You either have it, or they don't.
Yes, I have VERY severe new daddy pride.
So needless to say he will be staying a Stallion for the time being.
I have the armor. I have the horse (two years until he will be ready). I'm taking riding lessons. Then I'll just have to have Jeff and or Lloyd teach me how to joust.

Understandable. They look very similar and they're often seen together in photos. Both are stabled at Dom's yard.

Anytime....private lessons and monthly group sessions available...

I'm here when you're ready. Best of luck with the stallion. Friesians can be a handful.

We should talk sometime about you coming out to the mid-atlantic region and giving a two to three day version of your class. I figure we could get enough interested students to make it worth your while !
I know you have said that Friesians don't make the optimum jousting horse (though there are exceptions). But it was a horse that I could get the wife to compromise upon, her being a saddlebred person.
And I am admittedly a SUCKER for big black horses .... hehehe
