Viking Raid at BAM

I competed in the 14th Century Deed of Arms this past Gulf War and was very impressed with it. I had the thought of doing something similar at this coming BAM but for earlier in period. My question is;
Would anyone be interested in small melee for earlier period, something like a Viking raid on a coastal village? It would have certain armor requirements and weapons restrictions as well as a special rule set. The local militia would be able to loot any raiders they killed (similar to the way ransoms are done in the Deed at Gulf) and the raiders would be able to loot the village if they routed the local militia.
If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please post on this thread. I would love to see this happen and I think it would be easier for me to convince the one in charge (whomever that turns out to be) to have one if we can gather support for it.

He'll yes! I was just talking about doing something like this on the way home from GulfWars. I was thinking about a ship to ship battle with period weapon and shield requirements. Whatever it is, count me in.

The thing is there is already a ton of battles on Saturday at BAM. Friday the numbers are not as high and you will limit it even further by only allowing early period. Just my .02.
Another thing to think about is that the Deed and the 30 are also so appealing because they offer a different type of fighting than regular SCA. That is a bigger draw that guys who just want to fight guys with similar armour.
Again, just my opinion, but I think it is why early period battles never really catch on the way the Deed/30 have.

I think there are a bunch of reasons the 14th century deeds have proved to be popular. Our armour standards make that the first time period where you don't have to hide protective gear, so it's easier to do than a high end early kit. So we get a lot of people doing it. Melee deeds capture the aesthetic and the ethos of the era well. The ransoms are both an incentive to play and a way to share some cool stuff with folks who will appreciate it.
I think a viking era fight should embrace a similar idea, and a raid fits well. It needs a boat, which our long ship company has. I've been bugging them to get it back in the water. We have a lake in Belton, just north of Austin, where we've had events. We should do a proper raid there.

Gaston, That sounds amazing. I would buy a viking kit just to be a part of that. If you think you can make that happen, please do.

I'll need a viking kit too. I'm willing to be a monk or a Carolingian era knight defending them to make this happen.

That sounds like it would be a fun time. I might need to tighten up the Northumbrian kit a little, and a raid on Belton Lake should be possible. There are plenty of locations on the lake (USACE parks, etc) that have an area for a boat to land.
That being said, if I can get the kit up to spec by BAM, I would be interested in a raid there as well.

if you want to do a boat raid without the boat, you could always do "pulses" basically however many would fit into a landing ship every 5 min or something
