Pennsic Tournament: The Ducal Three Form Challenge

Post by Dietrich von Stroheim »

Unto the Warriors of the Knowne World,
Dietrich von Stroheim, swordsman and spearman of the mighty Kingdom of Atlantia, sends greetings, and an invitation to meet me upon the Fields of Cooper in wager of battle.

On Wednesday, July 31 at Pennsic there is going to be a BotN-esque triathlon tournament fought with (rattan) longsword, sword+buckler, and sword and shield.

This is going to be my last activity of the war (I have to leave immediately after this to get home for a relocation), so come on out, and let's make it a good one! This promises to be a fun test of prowess and endurance, and will be a great measuring stick for those of you who are training for the Battle of the Nations single combat.

Hope to see you there!
Sir Dietrich von Stroheim

In the Battle Description part of the Pennsic site, it says it will be at 11:30 am on the Main Battlefield. It is listed at 2 pm on the schedule...I'm not sure which one is right.

I can't make it, but it sounds like fun.

Counted blows?

Botn triathalon is 90 seconds longsword, most hits wins followed by best two out of three sword and buckler, first to three good blows wins followed by 90 seconds sword and shield, most blows wins. Judges count blows. there is a one minute break between rounds. Target area is everything except the feet and groin. No thrusts.

I can get the "no thrusts" with BotN simulators, but with rattan? What will constitute a "good blow"... standard SCA rules?

Not that I will ever be at Pennsic, but the format sounds fun...
No, really, I'm serious. Look at my face. :|

This isn't my tourney, but if you are doing it Botn style the judges count unimpeded blows thrown with good form.
