Where to get neoprene?

Post by schreiber »

In the post about the poleaxe, the maker was talking about neoprene sheet. Where is this stuff available?

I make a lot of shoes, and there's some stuff called crepe sole which I was thinking of using for a polearm. It's basically super- dense foam. You can see it on the bottom of the typical ren- faire suede boots.

Any info on the neoprene is appreciated.

Best place(depending on location) would be a pawn shop. Looking for an old wetsuit that's cheap. Alternatively http://www.friendlyfoam.com/ carries some nice neoprene based foam.

The neoprene in this case is a hard, solid rubber. I found some by looking in the yellow pages under "Rubber". Many companies that deal in rubber have boxes of scraps and short ends that they will sell to the public.

I have seen Neoprene being sold at Home Depot, but I am not positive that this is the same material needed. It was in the same section that the chain and rope.
I hope that this helps.
