ballista

Post by losthelm »

going to try making a balist out of stainless.
but haveing a bit of truble figering out dementions. I want to keep this light so that I can use it for combat archery.
evil I know.
How thick should the plate be?
the ajustment for the torshion spring I thought to make using an O-let with a plate welded to the edge around the cercumfrance for the pin using a piece of stainless pipe. for the stock I figered to use a piece of channel. still have not found a trigger meacanisim I like but leaning to a traditional cross bow nut out of a pool ball.
it would end up looking somthing like this

___O____________O____
I S I I I I
I P I I N I
I__R___I___I____G___I
O c O
h
a

the O are the O-let

Get ahold of Christophe de Friselle. He made one almost exactly like that and brought it to winter war. He had it on an x-post w/his website listed.

Oddly enough, I happen to have that address.

I haven't put up a proper website yet. The original stand was one of the shire's list poles. I'm currently working on a proper stand for it. You can see a picture of it at Winter War V at http://aurora.homeip.net/gallery/2002/WWV/index.htm .
Once I have the stand finished, I'll have some new picture and a proper site with plans up. It's based on the ratio chart from "Greek and Roman Artillery" by Mansen. I made a spreadsheet to do the ratio calculations. It can be found at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SCA-SiegeDesign/files .
