Congrats to Thier Highnesses! It was a fine tournement and a beatiful day. The mist cleared off the mountain just in time for the processional. It was day full of clean, hard fighting. You just couldn't ask for a better tournement...

Well at least my shield and tent made it into some of those pics!

I had a pretty stellar time at this event, btw. The weather worked out great despite the clouds rolling over the mountain top in the morning and the insane directions. ("Gorillas in the Mist OooH! ...OooH!")

I fought fairly well making to the sixth round (round before the quarters) and was one of the three top unbelts in the list (Lord Sinclair, who went out the same round as I, myself, and Lord Damuth, -who had a stellar day and made it to the semi's.) All my oppenants were honorable and chivalrous and this was, IMO won on the cleanest, and yet most hard fought crowns i've seen.

The seeding was intersting, with folks dropping the day of, the list changed around up until the last minute, etc. There were also some losses early on that where unexpected. However, the staff espically the MoL's just did a stellar job. Kudo's to His Highnesses squires who ran the shield tree, as usallly that added a lot to the pagentry and drama of the day.

There were a number of archivers running around and I got to chat with several of them (including meeting Broadway, who it turns out knew my squire brother Sir Duncan quite well) and had a good time in general. His Majesty gave me the day off so I missed out on what was quiet a fun court, from what i've heard. Feast was suppose to be excellent as well.

It was a truly fine day. Congratulations again to Thier Royal Highnesses, and Vivat Atlantia!

The directions from asheville were something like :Drive down 221, site is on left. yeah... 60+ miles later on the left... hehehe

The clouds in the morning were totally awesome.

Everything was awesome in fact... great tourney...

If any of the guys that helped me drag the food from the kitchen to the feast hall for all 25 dishes read the site... thanks a bunch. You guys rock.

you did fine. list management has little to do with your placement in the tourney. more, you should be watching your opponents and deciding your best means for attack. im still reviewing the tapes i have gotten thus far and watched some fo your fighting. you are still in a pattern of shots that you need to get out of and you need to clean up your offsides. they are a bit clumsy but well placed overall. i think if you can hone in your delivery of your offside you will be in much better shape. im very proud for you overall in your advancement and think you will do well with a little work. still one of the best dressed on the field though!

Those are actually two things that I have been working on recently, 1. Watching my oppenants sword and letting that tell me where to block (I did fairly well on that score) and tightening up the Pendulum. (Something that Badioun mentioned to me recently too). I've gotten sloopy with it since I don't work on it during practice, and pell work has been about precision drills with Flat Snaps and Straight Offsides. I've gotten some really good pointers from Prince Janos recently too.

So much to work on, and it's all so fun. :D

Assuming that buying this house doesn't kill my momentum i'm making two practices a week and events on the weekends, which I've haven't been able to do since the first year I started. (Back when we used to have two practices a week here in Richmond.) Sucks that I have to drive to NoVA to do it right now, but we have a group of hungry young guys that are looking to get better, so hopefully once I get settled in we can get that going again.

Looks like we might have the house too today, so it's good news all around.

Thanks for the compliments, they and the encouragement mean a lot. It was good to have dinner with Cassandra. Good luck with the new business venture, too!
(Hm, maybe this would have been better as a private message... )

EDITED: BTW, who has the tape Brian or Sinclair, let me know and i'll see if I can get a copy from them...that would really be helpful.

Regards,
Byram

OK OK granted I was the headcase failure at crown. But soup bowls come on :? . Well If soup bowls we are then that might not be so bad for a soup bowl sits atop a checky table cloth does it not?

Hope you know I'm just giving you @#$%...

What was the saying from that 12th (in Charlotte) when Luned was Queen..."the Cresent Rules the Checky!"

You've been having a really good season B, I didn't get to see your fights at Crown (well, I say one with S. Falcone) but that one tourney (despite how important it is) isn't the only one of the year. Hang in there man.

See you at Sapphire,

I know your just pulling my leg Bryce, I just possibly had the worst fighting day of my SCA life. :( It could be worse. I just hate when my head gets in the way of my sword arm ya know. It matters less to me that it was crown, and more that I just goobed regardless of the event.Getting beat is fine, loosing is something much worse. I'm going up to logan's for a couple of days so I can get back in the groove.
