New War Scenario -- Banner battle

Post by Noe »

All the discussion over here about our nascent archery rules has led to a war scenario we are just itching to try when we get more people: Banner battles.

Fighters from an Avalon Circle (think Shire or Barony in SCA) are considered to be a unit for the purposes of this scenario. Each unit will have a banner that is carried into battle. If the opposing side manages to capture a banner and return it to their territory, then that entire unit is considered to be routed. If the flag is recaptured and raised again, then that unit is considered to be rallied.

The thought is that this will change the dynamic of the battle, adding a morale factor to the conflict. Also, hey, all the banners would look cool. :)

Comments? Has it already been done?
Bring me my broadsword and clear understanding.

Not sure how sound this is as its untested...

I had an idea where you had multiple teams (say 5 teams of 20). Everyteam has 2 banners. A static banner at their "base", and a banner that is carried by a fighter and myst remain within 20 yards of that teams commander.

Kill the commander or the banner carrier, you get their banner (you have to pick it up without getting clubbed) and must take it directly back to your base.

Only the teams commander or banner carrier can pick up the fallen enemy flag.

What will happen is one team will end up with several flags. Some of the other teams will have to form temp aliances to get their flags back.

Rinse, repeat.
