upcoming events, Autumn War (An Tir) and GWW (Caid)

Post by tessathehuntress »

Greetings!

Just a quick note that I will be at both events this year. I'll be at Autumn War from the 17 to the 19th, possibly from the 16th to the morning of the 20th, depending on who I ride to and from the event with. :) I'm planning on bringing my armor and borrowing a bow and arrows for the event, so you should be able to find me either inspecting or fighting during the day. I would like to meet more people at Autumn War, so if you will be there, let me know.

I will be at Great Western War from Tues/Weds (I can't remember which day the site opens) until Friday around noonish. Unfortuantely, we have to cut the event short, since we have to be back for an event in AEthelmearc on that Saturday. I know they have me scheduled for teaching a class on tactics and later hosting a general roundtable discussion on combat archery on Friday morning. If anyone is going and would like to match a face to a name.. and/or discuss combat archery, just let me know.

I should have more specific times for my classes/meetings, so if anyone is interested, just drop me a line.

Thanks,

Tessa the Huntress, Deputy Society Marshal for Combat Archery

Great, I will stop in your camp :) Thanks for the invite.

I'm planning on fighting with house Burning Bear, since they are letting me camp with them, providing food, tent and loaning me a bow and arrows :)

Thanks again for the invite, see you in 2 weeks. :)

Now on a different note, Great Westerm War. Below is brief blurb from one of the good archers in Caid, who are bringing me out to their event. I will be teaching two classes via the War Collegium.

"One will cover SCA combat archery tactics in regards to both historical and SCA warfare, tentatively scheduled to be held Thursday the 7th, and another, for lack of a better name, to be called "Combat Archery and Siege Roundtable Discussion." It will have to be held Friday morning, yes I know, during the fighting and some will miss it due to late arrivals. But I do urge anyone and everyone with the remotest interest in the subject to try to attend. This will be a unique ability to take any and all issues related to combat archery, siege, missile use, building, inspections, rules, and the missile experimental weapons testing protocols to the top, so to speak. There will also be plenty of opportunity for general discussions and the opportunity to just take off our gloves and, ahem, talk in a safe and open environment. Fire extinguishers will be in the room and the War Collegium staff is aware.

Tessa also will be teaching our new crop of combat archery marshals techniques in how to be better marshals and missile inspectors on an ad hoc basis. Stay tuned for further details."

When I get confirmations and specific times for the classes, I'll post them here.

Tessa
I hope you had a good time. Sorry for the weather but it did keep us cool on the field. I still feel I owe you the beverage of your choice. (maybe next time)

Actually, I had a great time. I'm sorry that I didn't get over to your camp. I kept getting "escorted" to different camps and parties. I lost count of how many camps I visited Saturday night. :) The great part of that was how friendly everyone was. Tons of offers for alchol, too. Just what I needed, LOL.. Now if I had accepted all of them, I think I would have sloshed when I walked.

I had a good time fighting. I brought most of my armor, but I borrowed a helm, bow and arrows. I didn't want to deal with those at the airport. It just seemed that there was a lot of hold up ?? before the fighting started, but once it did, it was fun.

Weather wise, it was better than Lillies (LOL).. Seriously, not a big deal. I always wear boots anyway, so mud isn't a problem. :) I usually get cold easily and Saturday morning was pretty chilly. I brought a long sleeve shirt to wear under my tunic, which is just what I needed to keep me warmer. Then the weather warmed up just a bit during the day. I think temperature wise it was perfect for fighting. I don't melt, so as long as it doesn't thunder or lighting, rain normally doesn't bother me. :)

I got to shoot in the archer duels on sunday, that was great fun. I was horribly out of practice, mostly due to my surgery and recovery time. But I still had tons of fun. I got some kills on Saturday and I placed 2nd in the archer duels. Now I have great motivation to make certain I maintain my practice time, since I would like to win next year. :)

Those archer duels were a lot more fun than I thought they would be and I'm going to see if I can get more areas to include them. :)

I think next year, I'm going to see if I can make arrangements to borrow a spear, since I hate sitting out the no-CA battles.

I loved the site, much better than the previous one. I had so much fun, I wish your kingdom wasn't so far away. Several of the guys were trying to talk me into coming out for a couple of your events (3 different ones) and they were debating on who I would fight with. Grin.

House Burning Bear is just awesome and it's great to be welcomed with such open arms by all of them. I have to admit that they spoiled me rather badly. :)

I hope you had as much fun as I did. I'll take you up on that drink next year. If you make it out to Pennsic, let me know and I'll provide you with one. :) I'm sorry I didn't get to meet you..
