I find myself wondering how long it's going to take before we see Crown Tourney Brought to You by Nike, and a betting line in Vegas.

Honestly UnderArmor would be a better sponsor...

Here's the moment you've been waiting for!!!

Sir Godfried of Frisia- 15-1 This might be a list he can close out- how well can he do against a lefty and can he hit certain people HARD enough? A good fighter for sure, and with an excellent consort, but still not a closer.

Count Valharic Caligula Aurelius 3-1 He is so cute! He just needs to make sure he hits people hard enough to win. He is a lefty who fightsin a very different way from most of Atlantia's good lefties (Anton, Ragnar) who fight slow preceise games, where Val jumps in your face. We'll see how he does.

Sir Robert de Rath 8-1 This is one of Robert's best chances to win Crown since he finalled against Cuan back in '97

Talun MacDubhagain- 25-1 not familiar with

Sinclair Hawkins 7-1 He needs to keep his head straight and shots on target. Don't get caught up in overwhelming opponents, just beat them.

Sir Bryce de Byram 15-1 needs to win a few tournaments. Should travel to practices and work out with the "great" fighters if he wants to seriously win Crown.

Sir Tascius Severus Fabius- 25-1 Who?

Brian Killian the Red- 11-1 has been kicking butt on the Squire's Tournament scene, and certainly can beat anyone in the tournament

Afshin of the White Mist- 25-1 a good melee fighter- not that I haven't seen him beat people surprisingly with that weird jump shot, but that isn't going to win Crown.

Jonathan Blackbow- 9-1 Hit them before they hit you this time and fight cleanly

Sean MacKelly 30-1 who?

Luther Josephus 30-1 not familiar with

Bryan of Sacred Stone (Damuth) 12-1 Dammuth is a good fighter, but a bit coarse. He can beat anyone in the list, but also has the biggest potential for acknowledgement issues, as he probably has the highest calibration of anyone in this list.

Henry West 22-1 Is he related to Herbert West- Ok that is a bad Lovecraft joke.

Brandon of Tipperary- 12-1 Brandon is an up and down fighter. Although he often doesn't care about the SCA in ahistoric re-creation sort of way, he has been around forever. His past performances in Crown- especially against Michael of bedford back in the 90's show that he has the potential... If hte day is right it could certainly be Brandon's.

Master Roland de Mounteney- 25-1

Mungoe McKlinchey-20-1 he has come a long way since the days of Nauga Hyde armor, and his skill has certaily improved. Comments lile, "I train with Micahel of Bedford, so you have to hit me harder for it to be good," still haunt him and his high level of calibration. A good guy who has become a better fighter over the years, but still has history issues to contend with.

Raven MacGregor- 30-1 Who?

Achbar Ibn Ali- 25-1 Achbar is a great guy who gets caught up in the moment of fighting. He knows how to fight, but excited andforgets crucial things like combinations at inaaporpriate moments. If he were to seriously decide to learn how to "fight" instead of "flail" he could certianly be good- not many people love fighting or the SCA more than Achbar.

The Darke One

PS- these comments aren't meant to piss anyone off. Take them in the same light as color commentary by Dennis Miller please. I really don't know any of these guys and am just making it all up :)

Will you make the pics and video of crown available here?

Thanks!!

DA, that's funny.

Although I'd certainly give Master Roland higher odds than 25-1. Maybe 12-1 or 10-1. In my mind he's the best-kept secret in Atlantian heavy combat. Having been thumped by him, I can tell you not to underestimate him.

Roland is definitely tricksy.. and he's a lefty that uses some of the non-lefty moves. The question would be is he in condition? Not living in Atlantia, I've not seen him for a year, so I've got nothing to go on. Can he get past Valhalric or Robert?

Roland has enough potential that I'd take the 25:1 and look for the line on him to "show." If he's been working, he has the experience to go all the way.

Keep in mind- my odds are only "to win." Someone might have the potential to "do well" but not win- therefore they won't get such good odds.

Roland may indeed have the shots, etc, but do you think he is "going to win?"

I have to agree with the 25:1, although I would not be adverse to calling my "Account manager" in Vegas and putting some backing on that ride. This list is pretty open with a whole lot of fairly evenly matched talent, and some strong contenders. It should be a very enjoyable day to watch and I am disappointed that I won't be able to attend to see it.

The project is comming along slowly but surely.
I am about half way through creating pages for some 90 odd squires that I have info on. I am also waiting on final confirmation from the Atlantia Web Minister to host the site there.
I will probably have pics posted within a week after crown, video maybe a little longer.

It was pointed out to me (by the lady that he fought for) that Robert actually made it to the finals again (where he again lost to Cuan) in May 2002.

why yes, those are vidars. he gave them to justinian shortly after i squired him as a gift. i had nothing to do with that transaction as the mere thought of wearing someone elses footwear is, well, a little more than my delicate nature could handle.

Logan's odds are somewhere between those of Dammuth and Valharic-

Although Logan has apparently done well in a recent tournament where many of these fiighters participated, the question remains out about his ability to hold up for the course of a Crown. Granted his flat snap is working, for the moment, and his defense is probably in excellent shape (his left shoulder being fine), but his right shoulder probably can't hold utp to too many odd shots.

Basically I think that he would be a mobile flat snap platform, which against most of the people in this tournament would be fine- especially against his own Squires, who he probably has a mental edge on (like every knight should have over their kids).

His toughest fights would come from Jonathon- who is rumored to be using a new shield shape (which is always an odd choice right before Crown), Valharic, Brandon, and Robert.

If I had to put a number on him right now, I would probably place Logan in the 5 or 6-1 category, as I think he would shut down Sinclair and Bryan Killian, and most of the other guys on the field.

I might also entertain odds that he would screw up his shoulder again "going for a shot" before the day was out...

Although I completely agree that a Knight should be and usually is aware of every one of his Squire's weaknesses on the field and is more than capable of exploiting them all... Lets do remember that as Squires; Bryan and I have literally been hit hundreds if not thousands of times by Logan and are probably in as good a place as any to see particular shots coming at us and blocking them/getting out of the way.

Am I going to say that we will beat him, no... I am not a stupid Squire and I don't need a beating that badly right now, but I just wanted to point out that we Squires are in a peculiar position of being VERY well acquainted with the offense and defense of our Knight and have hours more experience against him than the others you mentioned.

My bookie sources tell me that Sir Godfried just withdrew from the Tourney.

That makes the first round look like this:

Valharic vs. Sean
Robert vs. Henri
Bryce vs. Jonathan
Roland vs. Bryan(Damuth)
Tascius vs. Brandon
Raven vs. Mungoe
Talun vs. Brian Killian
Acbar vs. Sinclair

With Afshin, Egil and Luther getting to challenge in.
