Panhandle Skirmishes

Post by Gaston de Vieuxchamps »

So Panhandle Skirmishes since it's beginning was supposed to have been a war between Trimaris and Meridies and/or Glenn Abhan. Well, our traditional foes have had a rough year and instead it is a fundraiser/melee tournament to benefit the Society's newest kingdom and her ravaged citizens.

The plan for the GA fundraiser tourney is as follows. Bid on teams (naturally). The winning bidder for each team becomes that team's patron and the order the teams come in is the order in which the patrons pick prizes. Bid early and often. There will be lots of nice prizes to choose from.

Each team will consist of 5 fighters of which one can be an archer. Each team is allowed to have 1 alternate (total of 6 but only 5 can fight in a given round) though we hope to have as many teams as possible. No ther substitutions will be allowed.

So the teams will compete in a sort of "warlord" format with each team joining the team that defeats it until there are only two teams left. Points will be collected along the way so that even if your team is fighting for another, you still benefit from winning. At the end some teams will be tied in points and will fight five on five to settle the rankings. The exact details are subject to change based on the number of teams we have but it will likely look something like this:

First Round: small field 5 on 5 (out of bounds=death)
Second Round: 10 on 10 portal battles (~8 feet wide)
Third Round: 20 on 20 bridge battles (small bridges)
....
....
Final round (only two teams left) will be a 20 minute resurrection battle (very short field like the allied champions' battle at Pennsic)

Rounds in between 3 and final round will be large open fields.
After it's over there will be a few "challenge" matches (5 on 5) to determine the final rankings. Then the patrons get to pick their prizes. After that we melee unitl we drop, scenarios to depend on numbers and interest...

So the event was a great success. We didn't have nearly as many in attendance as we hoped;about 150 in attendence, 59 heavy fighters on the field (11 teams-including two teams from Meridies), and 6 light weapons fighters (2 teams of three). But it really didn't matter in the end because everything went great.

The fighting was fun, the light weapons tourney raised $200, the silent auction raised almost $800, the heavy weapons 5-man team tourney raised $1400, the prizes were spectacular, the feast (included in event cost) was tasty (especially the deserts), and the whole experience was inspiring.

A weekend well spent.
