Reclaiming the Fire - A challenge

I have not been training in a few months and was unable to attend even this local event. I recently armoured up for 1 practice with similar results: no wind, no fire, no joi de combat.

Also, I find it unsuitable that two men of arms with common interests in post-Roman Britain, residing in the same community, have never crossed swords.

I propose a solution to both problems:

I challenge you to five minutes of continuous combat on Tuesday Dec. 6 beginning immediately after the boffer tournament at Bryn Gwlad fighter practice or no later than 9 PM if the tournament should run long. Terms:

1. Both combatants shall bear center-grip oval shields, one-handed swords, and armour suitable for those who serve in the warband of Arthur ap Uther, Dux Bellorum.

2. We fight with "wooden" training swords and not swords of war, so each stout blow will be verbally acknowledged but not counted or enacted in any way.

3. At the conclusion, the one with the biggest grin shall be hailed as the victor.

Aedon Fraser, sometimes called "Ronnin", do you accept this challenge for the joy of combat?

I accept this challenge. God knows how many excuses I have made to avoid going to fighter practice since I have moved down to Bryn Gwlad. Its time I get back into the swing of things and get the body, mind and spirit back into shape.
