I agree, it troubles me as well. My prowess is lacking due to my injuries, but the opertunity to take part in something more grand is to sweet to resist. I am so bored with standing in line for yet another boring bearpit double elim like Vitus mentioned. I have noticed though that once someone realizes there are options out there they begin to take them, many are bored and tired of the status quo.
Change is happening, and for the better, its just a slow process.

Good Sir Vitus,

I have followed the travelings and escipades of the Couter and its Tenans. I have even inquired about its where abouts and potential appearances. Unfortunately I have yet had the privelage of corridinating with one of the Tenans at an event to challange for said Couter.

But, do not think there is not interest in this quest. I state here that I have interest and when I am able to meet up with the then current Tenan of the Couter I shall challange for it.

But, until We can meet at an appropriate stage and I can suitably present the consort of the Tenan and the Tenan himself with proper gifts I shall only be able to watch.

Have no fear this quest shall not end with Lord Hedinn

To all men at arms who love deeds, I send my love and devotion and hope that your life at arms pleases you greatly, for it is a fine and pleasant garden when it is looked after and cherished.

I tell you this, that my Lord Sir Vitus speaks out strongly because of the love in his heart for deeds done lustily. Sometimes, in the life of arms, we look about and ask "What have we done?" It was from a spirit like that that I set forth on the occasion of the Summer's End Tournament three years ago now to win honor. I had for ten years done nothing in the life of arms that could be accounted for much--the give and take of blows in the everyday manner.

My lady wife was on the days when I did deeds most pleased to join me in the celebration of the life of arms. The day of deeds which we did in the Barony of the Flame under the watchful eye of Sir Nigel MacFarlane and my Lord Sir Vitus, and the deed which Sir Johannes showed me at Estrella War, and the deed which Lachlann, squire of the Duke Kane Redfeather gave me at the bickering hight Border Wars--these all three were moments that I shall never forget.

I myself have been away from deeds of arms and the life of arms too long. I hereby re-dedicate myself to the life of arms and upon my return to my manor house in the Kingdom of the Outlands, I will set forth to hold a festival of arms and feast, which will give right worship to the culture of deeds, the men of deeds who love chivalry and grace, and the ladies who forbear with great forbearance the travails of the life of arms.

This I swear, all of you my witnesses.

Wonderfully said. There is an intimacy in these deeds that can not be explained, only experienced, I greatly look forward to it.

I asked for the privelege of fighting for this honor in private. Unfortunaly Family issues have come up and I will have to leave the event before the spectacle takes place. If Lord Hedinn would permit me. I would love to demonstrate my prowess for him beforehand. As I told him, I shall be armored in the manner of a proper member of Chivalry and will exchange 10 good blows of the knightly longsword with any who would wish it. I shall even bring along extra gauntlets, for while I wish to defeat all who would bear arms against me, I wish that none are injured.

The combat of the 30 is not what I originally envisioned. I assumed it would be men of all status' in their best 14th century kit who's heart sang for the opportunity to relive the honored combat of yore.

It seems to me to have become a game where each captain trys to see how many men of title they can get in borrowed armour so that they may run in triads killing single individuals.

I would rather stand side by side with men of no rank who truly chersih these opportunities than Dukes who borrow armour to do this as something different. I am pointing no fingers just voicing my oppinion on what I see and have seen as a combattant in the first of these battles. I also see the triad approach as, while effective, very anti chivalric. Individuals would go out to test thier mettle against others of like mind in a fair and honest contest of strength and skill. One man, defeating another in such a way is glorious. Three men defeating one man is an obvious conclusion that brings honor to no one.

I'm not saying that the battle of the 30 should be run differently than it already is. I'm just saying that some of us dont see it as the gleaming example of high chivalry as many others.

The fierce heart in me sings at this. This is why I fight in the SCA, deeds of arms, the joy of fighting an honorable opponent, testing my skill and strength against theirs, thrilling the consorts and gallery and in the end, toasting one another as we sing praise.

Jehan, may God grant that you and I one day trade blows and share feast.

I would not presume to reply for him, but I can say Sir Angus was most Knightly and proper in his declaration of intent.
He is master of the longsword and proclaimed himself willing to meet all who wished to face him in counted blows. For myself, I can think of no better test that to face him with longsword and I am eager for the chance. I plan to meet him earlier in the day and present myself and my challenge to him. I will consider him as I will others who choose to vie later in the tourney.

The Marshal of arms of the field this day has expressed concern that the Tourney of the Couter will conflict with other tournements, and has asked that we hold until they are finished so as not to detract from these events. Because of this, I fear Sir Angus will have departed prior to the opening of the lists, and if this be the case, I encourage any and all to seek him out and test their measure against him privately, as he has expressed above.

I am saddened that he needed to withdraw, the event will be lessened by his absence.

Your kind words humble me Hedinn and my heart is heavy that I will not be able to be in the deed propper.

You have spoken falsly though my Lord. I am Master of nothing, expecially the longsword. True I have had good luck in many tourneys but I am a mere novice compared to the Masters of old. I only hope that my love for the art of the longsword will inspire others to walk upon this same path as myself.
