Sir Daniel,

Apparently it is just the pic, reflection I guess. Although silver tool dip would be cool ! :P

So, reading all the posts, have we figured out whether they are legal (kong stuff a ball) or not ? What about other Kingdoms other than Merides ?

Pretty sure they're legal in the East.

An Tir-probably legal. Haven't seen one here yet but I tested them at Estrella and they seemed to have plenty of give.

I know in period a mace would be a very effective weapon, but in our game with swords that can slice through "anything" why go for a weapon that is not going to give the clang that many people expect?

Do you enjoy the handling characteristics of the mace? Do you feel that you can deliver a more stout blow with the heavier head, or is it more of a representational thing.?

Its my primary weapon and i have decent success with it, im short with short limbs, a short mace has me standing in peoples shorts when i fight, right where i like it :)

Legal in the Outlands.

I have noticed that -- in melee -- the lack of a *CRACK* when it hits causes people to miss the shot.

Don't know whether it's legal or not in Æthelmearc - AFAIK no-one in the kingdom uses one, and I've certainly never had the opportunity to inspect one to get a personal opinion on it.

I'm told that one of the other knights is considering making one for an evnet this weekend, and if he does, I'll inspect it, and let y'all know whether they're legal here.

Yep, making one for the weekend. :) So you will get a chance to look at it and see.

Anything special you guys do with them, other than stick it on the stick? I plan on using the 3" version of the Kong.

Thanks

Be careful cutting out the hole to mount it, the rubber seems to want to tear if the fit is too tight.

Put it on the stick, tape above and below to hold it on, spray tool dip the head and tape, stained the haft (peeled rattan). Had someone say to me "Hey, that's a nice looking mace, too bad you can't use it because it's not on rattan..."

Then they got a closer look at it. :-)

The other thing I have seen is to cover the haft in "drawer paper". They make that fake wood adhesive paper to go in the bottom of drawers. Looks better than rattan does.

Yea I've been doing that to my fiberglass spears forever. It really improves the look.

Just a tip for better looking weapons:

"Gel stain" works very well on rattan, even the skin. Follow the directions on the can as if you were staining a fiberglass or steel door.

Regular spirit based stain will just wipe off the skin of rattan.

I might have to try the wood grain contact paper, that is a good idea.

Hadn't even considered that - it'd help protect the fiberglass from the sun, too. Where do you get it from?

Lowe's. Home Depot or any major chain should carry it also. Its found back in the kitchen decorationg area usually and sometimes in a varity of wood colors.

Oh yea cut it in a strip 3"x9' and it looks like a wood pole don;t do it in sections as the wood grain would be runing the wrong way.

I would think a 4" wide strip is needed.

Ok, in process making the mace. Have a costruction question.

How do you guys keep it on the stick? I was hoping to not have to cut the top, cause would like to have that flat with the kong ball. Will the tool dip basically hold it on? Its pretty tight on the stick as is, before I dip it.

If I have to cut the top, I have to cut the top, was just hoping not to.

Thanks

I was thinking about how you could attach the mace while keeping it flush. Run thin nylon rope up though the groves, over the top an down the other side. With a few pieces of rope and it taped securely at the base the head, it might work. Hope it helps.

I did cut the top on mine. I didn't see anyway around it. Mine used to have a thrusting tip on the end but thats gone now so I use the same method up there now too. I simple used some black sports tape and wraped it above and below the mace head. It doesn't go over the head just under and above. I then painted it down with liquid electrical tape (about the same as tool dip it just comes in a jar with a brush like rubber cement)
