mace head redux

Post by blackbow »

ok, let's try this again...

I'm looking for a specific type of mace head that apparently isn't a kong. The best example of it that I saw was probably two years ago (3?) at Gulf Wars. The weapon had a cylindrical head that was longer than a typical kong head but what really set it off was the fact that while the body was black, there were silver half-circles running in strips down the head. The gentle in question had actually painted the thing black and then painted the knobby parts silver. I think he had stained the handle a normal wood color. The thing looked so real I couldn't tell it was for SCA combat until he pulled it out of his belt.

Any of this ring a bell with anybody? I guess I don't MIND the kong treat toy head but I like the way this one looked.

regards

I remember the weapon but not the person who had it. I believe the head was a dog toy as well. It looked like it had little spikes all over the head and they were painted silver. Is this the same one?

It was smoking.

Yep. I can't imagine there being two of these. The spikes were hemispherical, i.e., not "sharp", but other than that, yeah. The head looked like a really long (wide?), symmetrical knobby tire.

Seems to me they might be an archiver.
Were they in a coat of plates, great helm with crest (a dragon, maybe...)
I seem to remember a post recently involving this mace/person

mace is too small to be the one I'm thinking about, and the one in that pic is silver.

The mace head is an off brand dog toy. Now I know what you are talking about, (the black and silver reminded me) gimme a day or so to go the petstore and see if they still have them. As far as I can remember, they were about 6-8 bucks, if that is the case, do you want me to pick you up one?

I made up a few after we found the heads, I like them but they are a bit stiff.

If you can't find 'em for sale, if you can remember the brand name I'll track 'em down assuming they still exist.

HG Gaston may may be the guy you are looking for. I made one of these as well but it needed extra padding to be legal. The head came from Wal-Mart. I bet they still have em.

FWIW plane your rattan down under where the mace head will sit and wrap it with a mouse pad before attaching the toy. That should give you the required 1/2" of progressive give you need.

I found those dog toys you are talking about the other night at Petsmart in the same aisle as the Kong ones. It was a toss up on which to get.

That is the one I was talking about. It figures they would be Gaston's.

well the green one looks horrific. the black one is pretty cool but looks smaller than i recalled. or, perhaps, the rattan is very long. the pole axe, however, looks fantastic (well aside from the stupid spray paint which does nothing at all except ruin the look of weapons).

As I remember, the green one was a "show and tell" to help poeple understand the black one.

Lol, well I was actually talking about the normal looking one, plus the pics of some of the others in the other thread. :) Realized I was posting in a second thread after I posted.

But yeah, the green one, would need to have someone punished. :)
