Blousing a mail shirt.
Blousing a mail shirt.
Do you blouse your hauberk with your kidney belt, if you wear one? Is this the recommended practice?
I recollect freiman mentioning that the rings deform if struck on top of a hard surface, but in mail we're faced with needing rigid protection in certain places. So I was thinking I could use a kidney belt to blouse my shirt over a gambeson (surcote over everything).
Thanks for any advice,
audax

Audax,
I wear a kidney belt under my mail. I cover the kidney belt with a very heavy woolen tunic, and that's it. I have had some deformation of rings, and I have lost a couple, but not many. I wore a belly barrel over the mail for a while, but it just looked wrong, and I am legal with just the heavy suspention rig.
When are you coming to visit? August is bad, September is a lot better. If you came, you should fly into Nurnberg, which is about an hour from us. Late Spetember is Oktoberfest (yeah, I know). If you ski, then later in the year is better. The first thing on the agenda is a nickle tour of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, which is a medieval city about two hours from here.
I went and checked on the ITR tours, and they are less frequent now than when there were a couple of million soldiers in Germany, but they still happen. Bus tours can be really exhausting, though. Traveling by train is better.
If you don't arrive exactly in the middle our upcoming move, you will have an indoor studio of some sort to workout in.
If you wait too long, My contact on the Italian Rivera will have moved.

Just have fun and do right by yourself and others.

Thanks guys. I'll wear the kidney belt under my gambeson to minimize ring deformation and blouse with my ring belt. Now if only my helm would arrive.
I probably won't be able to visit until sometime over my Christmas break from school (lasts about a month), so I'll be able to come over when it's COLD! Or I can wait until spring break, when it's a little warmer.
Thanks,
audax

While I am sure that many of us will certainly benefit from your experience, you should know that Audax is a female person.
