Dear all,
The Company of the Duke's Leopards on Jersey hosted three members of Drachenwald's Company of the Swan and Cross and our good friend Robert of Canterbury.
The Talented filmmaker Andrew Baker-Miles made this wonderful movie:
http://www.baker-miles.com/v1/videos/fo ... 006sml.mov
You'll recognise three regular archivers:
Giles of Redheugh (klappvisor, red gambeson)
Robert of Canterbury (pigface, long long legs)
me (klappvisor, black "pinstripe" gambeson)
and
Terefan Greydragon (pigface, yellow gambeson) the man behind greydragon.org
Look out for Giles breaking his sword on Robert's head...
Enjoy!

Logan!
Thanks! Actually my kit is cheap and cheesy compared to the other stuff out there - especially Giles' and Robert's. It just happened to be shiny that day.....

Great video. Thanks for posting it. I think it will be one of my favorites for a while. Great fighting, cool music.

Does the movie take a while to load? I'm not getting anything.
I wanna see!

That was great! The music, editing, and cinematography make it something worth showing as much as the people in it. Definitly demo/publicity material.

I let it sit for 10 minutes and got nothing. I don't know if there is a problem, I have a cable modem so things normally load really fast.
Is the link working right?

I did a right-click "save as" to get it to play.
Great video - I really enjoyed that. I'm going to watch it when I am having second thoughts about lugging my gear out the door.

Now I have yet another reason to go to Europe. Baron Elazar (here in Korea) has had nothing but praise for everything done in Drachenwald, and here's more proof.
That was EXCELLENT!! And I've seen a HUGE amount of video on the SCA!
Well done!
What a crowd you guys had! How did you organize such an event?
THAT was the romantic view of the SCA that I love.
I will fade out now into stunned silence.

Huh?
Could you direct me to a better video? This is better than I've done, and frankly I can't think of a Hollywood bit that matches up to it right now.
The rattan weapons were the only bits I found to be nonhistorical, and they moved so fast that it was a blur...so my imagination could work as well as my memory.
I haven't seen better. Please do show me a better video, please. In any language.
Given the average work time for a
minute of production level video is
four hours, this five minute video must have taken
20 hours of dedicated work. This is a beautiful labor of love, and I enjoyed it. I would like to buy a DVD level quality of it if possible!

I've tried everything suggested and I still can't get it to play. Maybe it's my home computer. I'll give a try at work tomorrow.

Very excellent! This is one of the best records of what people who care about presentation can accomplish.

Ah, we cannot claim the credit there. We were guests of the local reenactment society, the Company of the Duke's Leopards. They had taken on the task of running the "medieval corner" at the Island's agricultural fair. We just turned up with some beautiful tentage, some lovely lovely ladies, and four sluggers in tinplate.
Malcolm de Moffat wrote:ok Master Aethstan's hands are just wicked fast!!!! OUCH!!
Alas no. I am a sloth. I suspect the filmmaker twiddled on his speed dial to give me such prowess. It was my first day in a closed helm and breastplate, and I was pure toast...

The credits say it is called "Live by the Sword", by "Vega".
I don't know any more, I'm afraid.

I Feel So Smug.
It was just as much fun as it looks, if not more so..
(You need to download Quicktime 7.1 to get it smoothly)
I only wish I'd
A) Got a tabard finished.
B) Had a few Glorious Victories, to accompany my magnificent and Splendid Defeats
But if you thought le foire de Jersey looked fun, then you need to come to Raglan Fair...

You did, old pal: You certainly clobbered me more than I clobbered you. I just promised sexual favours to the film editor to make sure your moments of glory ended on the cutting room floor. Old Hollywood trick...
But truthfully, it was so. And I was just so impressed how well you fought in your pigface. You are so much better at "sixth sensing" than you were just a year ago. Fighting in a closeface for the first time, I have even more respect for the progress you have made.
Cheers!
PS the larger version is now done too. Because of the size, Andrew is asking people to mail him if they want a copy
