After the thread on how much everyone's armor weighs I've been rethinking the weight of my helm. It's 7 lbs. and there was discussion about whether that was too light or not.
I want to go a little heavier, maybe a pound or so, but not as heavy as most of you seem to have. I do have a vertebrae issue but discussed this with my neurologist last week. He's still fine with my pursuing a fighting career (I can start back up in another month or so) but he doesn't want a lot of weight on my neck.
After explaining the nature of getting hit he didn't necessarily think that a heavier helm would be better at protecting me than the one I have - he said, "Guess you need to learn to block better?"
My actual question is that my persona is Roman/Greek. Are there any earlier period fighters here and if so do you have any pictures of your helm? I want to get an SCA legal helm made and I need to get some good pictures for the armorer I'm going to work with it.
It want to do some brass and copper work but am interested in it being as close to period as our requirements allow.
Also, if there are any more thoughts or comments on helm weight, I'd like to hear more. I didn't want to get that thread off track again.
Regards,
Tasia
