Pilgrimmage continues

Post by Noe »

Im studying 4-7 hours a day with Stefan Dieke at his salle in dusseldorf. I will learn longsword or die trying. Plus some saber, dagger, and staff. I want to be able say, "Yes, heres how you bloody well fence with a longsword."
Bring me my broadsword and clear understanding.

Well, it is a month later, and I have returned to Japan. Now that I have a better grasp of the theory, I get to spend the next few years working on the execution.

Stefan Dieke was a very capable and patient teacher. He had a lesson plan and definite order in which he wanted me to learn the skills. I strongely recommend his salle for those who are interested in studying WMA. As an added bonus, he was at one time an SCA fighter -- both heavy and light -- so he is a little more sympathetic to folks from that background than some instructors I have contacted. His website is http://www.alte-kampfkunst.de/

Thank you, Thorvaldr. I had a great time with you guys. I think you have a fun group. If nothing else, Freiman's greeting was excellen: "Welcome to Bavaria -- Have a beer!"

It brought a tear to my eye.

(As did some of the combat, I am a bit contused from one of my fights with Cadogan)

It was a real blessing to have you here, Noe. I love fighting you.

Sorry that I didn't give you a really, really good fight, but it was still a lot of fun.

Next time, I hope to actually win against you a little.
