Tournament of the Pegasus' Joy (warning... long)

Post by Robert Downey »

On this 4th day of January, AS XLI do I, Lord Robert Downey, Sentinel of Cyrene, humble servant of the Most excellent Baron Charles Cedric Morton, and the Resplendent Baroness Alzbeta Michalik, Sworn Vassal and squire to the Peerless Dragon Throne send greeting.

The wise and splendid Baron and Baroness of Illiton have seen fit to declare that, on the 31st of March of this year, a celebration of Joy and life shall take place for the pleasure of their subjects. I, as their servant, have been charged with conducting a tournament of armes of peace worthy of their lands, and the Noble men at armes of the mightiest kingdom of the Knowne World. To that end, I would cry to the world their challenge. This is my charge, and my message.

“Hear ye! Hear ye! Hear ye!

Let all Princes, Lords, Barons, Knights, Squires, and Gentlemen of armes of the Baronies of Shattered Crystal, of Carraig Ban, of all noble Shires and provinces of the Great Kingdom of the Midrealm, and those in all other Kingdoms of the Knowne world, who be not banished nor enemies of the King our Lord know that on the first and thirtieth day of March, In the lands of the Barony of Illiton, There will be a very great festival of armes, and a very noble tournament with armes of peace, in appropriate armour, with crests, banners, and coats of arms of noble tourneyers, as is the ancient and noble custom.

And this shall be known as the Tournament of the Pegasus’ joy, for verily a life spent in Joy’de armes, and pleasing noble ladies is a truly noble life indeed. Worthy men, know these things:

First: That all may know these combatants to be noble and chivalrous, by the way they bear themselves, their arms and crests.

Second: That those who fail to behave honorably will be chastised.

Third: That ALL who take up the sword will surely get good exercise in arms this day.

Fourth: That any Knight, Squire, or man at armes will, by doing good deeds, gain mercy, strength, renown, and increase in love from his gentle companion.

Fifth: That good deeds will give great joy, and will proclaim the worth of noble men of coat armor. And in displaying the joy of lusty combat, Honor will be served before a gallery of fine Ladies.

We send this message with love and brotherly defiance. But we would also have you know This great Festival of armes has a purpose. A great and Noble lady has passed from our lands, and into the arms of God. She was a lady full of joy, who relished in the happiness of others, and of deeds nobly sought and nobly carried. Joy was the gift she gave to each heart she touched, and joy was the virtue she valued greatly in others.

It has come to our minds that our great Knowne Worlde is bountiful with such noble Gentles, and each year more pass from our halls. We would have The Honorable Lady Pege Pendandohter, and those nobles like her, remembered and celebrated in the coming years, for they are the keepers of our joy.

And so for this purpose we have caused a relic to be fashioned. And this shall be known as the relic of the Pegasus.

Upon our Tournament field shall stand Five Tennans of Joy, And they shall be known as: The Joy du Combat, The Joy of Friendship, The Joy of Love, The Joy of Beauty, The Joy of Success. These shall stand upon our field and judge the worthiness of all Vennans who advance themselves and their ladies in noble and joyful fashion for the honor of being the first Champion of the Pegasus. This champion, the holder of the sacred relic, shall have duties and honors which shall be told elsewhere.

We challenge all good men at armes, near and far, to meet our champions most lustily, and display knightly and joyful qualities, so that, with great honor, this relic shall be sent nobly into the world. And those who pass before us shall be remembered in joy and reverence.â€
