A few SCA practice photos

Post by Josh W »

Taken last summer. A friend who had attended a practice wanted to take some photos for a school project and this was what resulted. I had forgotten until she showed them to me this evening.

Me, fighting with Anar. Notice that I stripped off a lot of the plate; this was during the summer. I have legal plastic knees and elbows under the cloth.

Me, translating for a Mexican couple who wandered by. They spoke no English whatsoever, and were pleased to find a fluent Spanish-speaker among us. They really did get a kick out of what we were doing.

Benedek and I gearing up for another round. I look tired. God, but my forehead is huge...

Two of our female newbies playing.

Sadly, our shire no longer holds practices. It's all horsie-folks now. :( These photos were a pleasant reminisce, though...

Dear Baron, have to admit, that was one of the first things that popped into my head also when I read that. :)

As Dante said, if you have the folks, start it back up if you want to. If you have fighters there, they will show up. Though there will be plenty of nights were you show up and no one else will. :) Have had that happen a couple of times the last two years. My local area, i can just go home, but when I drive 45 min to my guys practice, and none of them show up, and forgot to let me know they were not going to be there, annoyed me a little. :)

The Shire of Grey Gargoyles holds practice and events at the University of Chicago. The University's student newspaper, The Maroon, sent a couple of photographers to our Sunday practice.

Link below is the phot spread they did.

That's me in the lower left in the round faced bascinet. The woman in the upper right is Nicole Allen of Rivival who just dropped in from the CSG/ARS seminar.

That is me in the barbute and chainmail with the horrid baggy trousers and crappy tunic. But that day was a wonderful practice even with just a few.

Now that I am becoming the new fighter marshall I plan on starting practices back up, as soon as the weather permits. Since we did not have any fighters showing up there was no winter site selected. As soon as we get the nice weather back I hope to attract a few more. We will see how it goes.
