One piece knee/shin armor

Post by audax »

What options do I have for this besides a shovel knee greave or maybe the Rally Race Face leg armor mentioned by Saint-Sever on a few occasions? I prefer such an arrangement for my low profile leg and knee armor.

I need knees and want greaves, though they are not really period for my persona. Getting cracked in the shin sucks.

Thanks,

Actually, one of the pictures posted from a Drachenwald guy (off the top of my head, I would guess Adam St. John) showed a picture in a museum of a Crusader and a Mongol (it was shot from below, so it was angled up). It had boiled limb defenses for the shins, and forearms. Roughly, it looked like bazubands and shovel greaves. Not sure exactly what it was based on, but you might want to see if you can get more info about it.
Westerners, we have forgotten our origins. We speak all the diverse languages of the country in turn. Indeed the man who was poor at home attains opulence here; he who had no more than a few deiners, finds himself master of a fourtune.

We take a pair of Umpire leg guards and remove the knee plate. Then we add regular knee cop (can be winged or wingless) and point it to the padding. Add some heavier straps and cover the greave part with some leather or heavy cloth. Works great. You might have to add a piece of heavy leather to the top of the cop and a strap so when you bend the knee it flexes with you.

sir Gaston is working on a spring steel set of frontal greaves, they are a lot of work, but they look sexy and are really lite. Stop by some Thursday night and check them out.....As my shoulder is healing up nicely, I hope to see you at practice now.

Hey Barnet, looking forward to seeing you at practice. I made a
pair of hardened leather shynbalds which I like but my knee cops keep slipping and it drives me nuts. So I was thinking that a one piece knee/greave combo would circumvent the issue. If I had the armoring chops I might give a Roman style greave a shot. I still might try my hand at some shovel knee greaves.

Iaenmor, I'll check out the umpire shinguards. Thanks for the tip.

If only I had more room. Such a shop I would have. Le sigh.

One of the most comfortable peices of leg armour I ever had was a simple pair of gamboised cuisses (sp?) with a floating knee cop. I have a pattern for a pair if you'd be interested. They were light weight, held the knee cop is place and were very comfortable.

These work great are low profile and fit under wraps, boots or anything.

I use set under my period boots in conjunction with gamboissed cuisses and "soupcan" knees.

Soupcan knees are pretty quick to pound out. It's what Ty's wearning now. Uther did a lot of the work on them in an evening. We could scale the pattern to fit you. A greave which covers the knee is certainly possible. We could modify the greave pattern I've been playing with lately to add a knee. Barnet's right though, they are more work. I just warped the crap out of one of mine yesterday when I quenched it.

Your Grace,
How flexible are these as far as accomodating shins of different diameters?

Sorry for the big picture but here's my knee and shin combo armor. This picture is old and the leather has now been stained, trimed and water formed to fit on the top of my boots better.

I love 'em.

Roak,
Sorry I was a little brain dead when I PM'd you, had just gotten back from physical therapy.

I will try and find some scarp fabric and make you a copy of the pattern and since you are so close, down there at the Great Place, I will send it out to yhaa.

Keep your eyes on our website. We will soon have our first pics up of our new aircraft aluminum greaves that incorporate the knee.
