Greetings all...
I have an idea for a non point battle at Pennsic. Here is the initial idea. I would like input from you guys and gals: especially if you have marshaled at Pennsic. While a bit complex in the execution I think it can be done and would result in a fun battle.
Please post suggestions here or PM me. I seriously want to propose this battle for a future Pennsic (this year, next year whatever). I'm after suggestions, not nay sayers. I already realize this battle will be a challenge for the ones who run it. But I think it would be worth the effort.
Thanks in advance
Name: Cry Havoc; the baggage train.
Situation: A great battle is over and the day is won for the side the armies of the East and Middle kingdoms belong to. However as both allied armies breakthrough the enemy lines and fall upon the enemy baggage train old rivalries suddenly open up again. Each king demands his share of the loot and soon the fight is on between the two kingdom armies and the enemy rearguard over the baggage train.
Force make up: 3 armies, East Kingdom army, Middle Kingdom army and the “Enemy armyâ€
Pennsic battle idea: Cry Havoc! The Baggage Train
If the victory condition is to control the baggage train at the end, it becomes another 30 second pile up at the end of the scenario. I don't like those much because how you fight them to win isn't fun (sit around until the last minute, then charge)
How's about this?
Have some number of sacks in the center column of wagons. The object is for the East and Middle army to get as many as possible back to their own res point. Obviously, they can't get them into the point when it is closed. Sacks put into the res point are cycled back to the wagons by the marshalls. The third army's job is to keep the sacks from getting taken.
Or have the battle end when all the sacks are taken. The third army wins if they aren't taken by a certain time.

Why have it timed? If you can get enough objects to be the cargo for the escorted baggage train, you could have it end when all the cargo items have been removed from the field. You could also have the baggage train moving north up the battle field, maybe into the castle. Who ever has them most stuff at the end wins?

But you really need the Huren in frilly German gowns waving from the wagons like in the Aldorfer painting.

This is exactly the kind of ideas I'm looking for... I too was also wondering how to keep the battle from being just a mad rush to win at the end.
I like this idea... it adds real looting into the game and that takes bodies to do which takes bodies away from fighting. Perhaps the loot would have to be held in a designated area near that army’s sideline. This would leave it susceptible to looting should that army become suddenly weak and depleted. This could lead to some interesting decisions having to be made by the commanders of the armies. How much to keep back to defend? How much to commit to attack?
Any one got ideas on how/where to get the sacks and what to stuff them with? Hey would not be a good idea with the mold thing and all in my opinion. We would need at least one hundred or so. Perhaps fill some with sand (gold) and make them worth two points each.
Lets keep this thing rolling...

I don't know, how long would you think this battle would last if we went that way? Being a new scenario I'd hate it to only last 10 or 15 minutes. People, well fighters anyways, come to Pennsic to fight and that is what this scenario is intended to give them the plenty of opportunity to do.
I say we go timed at first. We can adjust the duration settings later (if we do this at all
)
The moving baggage train is interesting though.
