In Service to the Duke - book review

Post by Winterfell »

I just received my copy of the book "In Service to the Duke" written by Paulus Kal in the 15th century and translated by Christian Tobler.

The quality of the book is top notch. It is a large book roughly 2 feet tall. The photo reproductions of the plates are equally high quality with lots of detail.
The merkverse is well translated as well, with both the original and the translation on the same page.
Christian also does a great job with the introduction and the analysis in the back, including showing specific references of other fightbooks to illustrate certain points.

This will be a treasured book in my library. If you have not ordered a copy and you are a student of historical combat studies you should get this book while it is still available.

This is a small sample from the website:

You have to push the little yellow button to load it.

The price tag is more than reasonable.

Its supply vs. demand at work.

I buy cheap books all the time, that come close to hitting what I actually want... if you add up all the crap I buy that comes close, just to reach something that actually provides what I want... I've easily blown $175 on several books, that all added together do not provide what this one does for the price.

I'll be getting a copy as soon as I can.

(EDIT: after reviewing my check book, it happens that I can buy one now... woot! order is placed.)
