Who's fighting on May 5th for the Atlantian Crown? I haven't seen a list posted. Maybe it's posted somewhere else?

I want to go, but will likely be traveling from the West coast that day.

May 5th??? We just had coronation not one week ago?

Are reigns that quick?

Crowns are normally 1 month after coronations, at least around here and from what I have seen from other places.

But the actual reign should be around 6 months.

This just allows for both sets of royalty, to be able to hit more of the kingdom, if they can. At least thats how I was taught.

Good.

I was worried that the crown just touched their head, and then they need to give it up.

The Crown list constantly gets updated anyhow. I remember last year about this time 1 month prior to crown thinking "wow. there's hardly anyone entering" (like 15 names), and then a week before crown the list seemed like it had 30-40 names on it.

There are, SCA-wide, essentially two patterns for the length and timing of reigns.

In what I would call the Western model, there are three reigns a year, that is, each reign lasts approximately four months.

In this pattern, the Crown Tourneys are usually held toward the end of the current reign, so that the victorious couple hold the titles of Crown Prince/Princess often for less than a month.
In what I would call the Eastern model, there are two reigns a year, each reign lasting approximately six months.

In this pattern, Crown Tourneys are usually held toward the beginning of the current reign, so that the victorious couple hold the titles of Crown Prince/Princess for the greater part of their predecessors' reign, usually around five months.

There may be variations on this, but I'm not aware of them.

Proponents of one system are generally opponents of the other, most commonly the one side says that the four-month reigns are too short, while the other side says that to wear one or another crown for nearly a year is too long.

In the Ansteorran variant of what you call the Eastern model, we have our crown tournaments about 1/2 way through the reign....

A ***PERFECT*** compromise between the two, if I do happen to say so as an Ansteorran knight! LMAO

In AnTir, from what I remember as a newbie 20 odd years ago they quartered the year with Coronations at 12th night and midsummer and Crowns Spring and Fall.

I believe in atlantia the winter reign is 7 months and the summer reign is 5... not that that has any bearing on this conversation. That makes crown winners prince and princess for 6 and 4 months respectively.

I think the list is going to be posted some time this week if little birdies can be trusted!

From what I know there's something like 18-20 names on the list. A decent list from what I hear too.

Yup I heard 20 names as well a couple of Dukes a count... five knights and some whiney ass unbelts

There are only a couple of viscounts active in Atlantia that I know of, one a former Prince of Atlantia (Sir Tojanereum, aka TJ) and the other a former Prince of Drachenwald (Sir Axel).

Spring Crown is in May, Fall Crown is in November; Spring Coronation is in April, Fall Coronation is in September.

Is Sir Colin the one who fights in red white and blue, with a round captain america sheild? Left handed? If so I got to do some fighter practice fights with him at the DC Thursday night fighter practice. He's pretty good... and a lefty too. I fought two other really good knights that night, I think one of them might have been Sir Tomas, while the other was Sir Guy. Tomas was pretty good too, although not as fast as Sir Colin.

A good list so far. That Blackbow guy doesn't suck either, specially for a "whiney unbelt" :P

Hiya JP,

Yeah that was me. Sorry we didn't get to fight as much as I'd like but I enjoyed the crossing of swords. How did your Crown entry go?

I've gotten some questions about the OP, and just to clarify, I pulled that information straight off of http://op.atlantia.sca.org/atlantian_op.php.

I've looked at everyone's awards and dates, and everything looks correct.

Semi-finals... didn't have the oomph to get past Gunthar and Ulstead... the two combined to put me out.

D,

Reinar got a job in Raleigh last spring. That is why I took over as Cynaguan Marshal. He moved just before Beltaine. Ulrich von Wessler and Viscountess Keisha Trollslander moved out there this month as well. It will be odd to see squares and half rounds in pictures from Atlantian Crowns.

Tough fights. Were they the final two? When we fought I was using the round. For this Crown I think I'll be using the heater. There is a pretty darn good polearm fighter who is too good not to give him the respect he deserves...read as he's good at taking my leg then picking me off from a distance. :)

Hi,

These odds are created with winning Crown in mind, not how far people get. These odds are for the winner. Not the second place guy. With that in mind:

3-1 Duke Logan Ebonwoulfe

My sources say that Logan's shoulder is working. If it is, he will probably win.

8-1 Duke Ragnarr Blackhammer

Ragnarr is a three time Atlantian Crown winner and left handed. If he can get to the finals he knows how to put it away.

12-1 Sir Corby de la Flamme

Corby uses flaming swords.

15-1 Lord Jonathan Blackbow

He will win eventually.

Between 20 and 50-1
Viscount Reinar Jorgensen- he is new to Atlantia and might get by a few people with his different style

Sir Bryan of Sacred Stone-recently Knighted, he has done well before, and might be able to pull it off finally, but I don't feel that he will be able to handle a multi-round final against Logan or Ragnarr.

Sir Vladimir Aleksandrov- Vlad has done well before, but this format might not be the best for him.

Lord Afshin Darius - His name be Dark Horse.

Lord Ragnar Ribcracker- I am hearing that a lot of people don't like fighting this guy. I think he is left handed too. Trepidation on the part of some fighters might give him a good opportunity. Logan will probably just move in and take him out. Vs Duke Ragnarr will be a fun fight to see. I think he will take out at least one or two belted fighters.

Between 50 and 200-1

Sir Thomas of Calais
Master Kevin of Thornbury
Baron Mungoe McKlinchey
Sir Colin Gordon

200-1 and above

Lord Allen of Wolfhou
Lord Girard de Bourguignon
Baron Ansel Rowland Matthews
Lord Pagan Grendel
Lord Theron Andronikos
Lord William Thomas
Lord Philip ap Griffith

Enjoy,

DA

Here's my picks. This is assuming that the pickes are done by OP on the double elim format in the MOL handbook for Atlantia. NOTE: This does not include challenge-in's due to the fact that you don't know who they're going to challenge.

Quarter Finals:
Duke Logan
Lord Ragnar
Sir Colin
Sir Corby
Lord Afshin
Duke Ragnarr
Sir Bryan
Sir Thomas

Semi Finals
Duke Logan
Sir Colin
Duke Ragnarr
Sir Bryan

Finals
Duke Logan
Duke Ragnarr

Winner
Duke Logan

Yeah, no one knows really how the tourney is going to be run, who's going to challenge who, and all that, but I figured I'd do this for fun, hehe, and thought I'd share. Here's a link to the PDF of the tree I was playing with. If I mispelled names or anything, I apologize. As I said, this was just for fun.

Colin, isn't Ribcracker at your practice? DA, I don't think he's lefty, but I could be misremembering. That brother is definitely name properly, as he threw some heat, but I'd quibble with you giving him better odds than Sir Colin.

Colin is left handed, faster, and hits just as hard. He gave me everything I could want at the fighter practice I went to.
