I'm 29, but my birthday is in the beginning of August.

I have lost track of how old Kael and Rousel are. I think they are close to my age but I can't remember exactly how old they are.

Until Justus was knighted, I was the only knight under 30 in Atlantia...and maybe Kael and Rousel.

I'll help marshal and whatever else you need, assuming that it's not scheduled against something I *have* to do someplace else.

And I'll bring along my newest man-at-arms, who qualifies for the age restriction.

P.S. Sorry we didn't get a chance to play at ToC today; maybe at Gulf Wars.

Sir Vitus, you didn't ask for my opinion but I hope you will forgive me for sharing it.

If you do the tournament, do it big. I mean, REALLY BIG.

If you do the party, do it HUGE. And I would beg Nissan Maxima to be in charge of it. With Freiman the Minstrel as Emcee. The three of you could put on shenanigans that would be talked about for years.

And I was going to ask about the number of under 30 chiv. I can now count 1. (There are none that I know if here in the East.)

Aside from myself, we have quite a few in Caid:

Sir Kolfinna Kottr
Sir Haraald Hlatur Drengur
Sir Helgi hrafnfaedhir (nearly 30)

there's quite a few chiv under 30.

King of Outlands is like 19 or 20 (though I am not sure if he's been knighted).

You know, this whole time I thought Dagonet was my age. Now I don't feel so bad about him beating me like I've never held a sword before! He has two whole years of practice on me! :-)

Sir Vitus, I won't be at Pennsic, but I wish you luck with the endeavor. I wonder, however -- why under 30? With other specialized tournaments, it tends to be to either group the elite fighters (invitational and champion tournaments), to showcase people who have to overcome certain challenges (iron rose, graybeards), or to bring together folks who share some unusual characteristic (dwarves v giants, iron rose, graybeards, barons, etc).

I wonder -- and this isn't a critique, but curiosity -- why you feel there is a need to bring together those under 30. There must be some interesting thought behind it, I am looking forward to hearing your insight.

How 'Bout a prize. I have a half finished Lyre downstairs in Bavarian Oak. I could throw it together before August, I think.

I like this plan, by the way.

Dmitriy - I don't want to speak for Vitus, but as an under-30 fighter (or even an under-30 participant in the SCA) I can say that the prospect of having a forum in which to socialize & test myself against individuals my age is awesome. Around here, most of the folks that are active are roughly a decade on me (I'm 26). While there's a constant push to recruit from local universities, there never seem to be enough that stick around. I don't want to sound like I -hate- the environment in which I am active (Atlantia rules!) but this is something that would definitely be a cool activity to see. I'm glad you don't have this problem out west. :)

Sigh....I feel old.
I remember when there were "Over 30" tournaments so we
could watch the old farts battle it out.

I'm getting close to celebrating my 18th year as a knight.

I think Kael is 30 now, we were born in the same year, but I hear Rousel is younger than we are.

Along the same lines -- it would be kind of fun to see a tournament broken out by boxing weight classes flyweight all the way up to super-heavyweight.

You must not remember the last time we fought...Pennsic in 2005...there was some beating that occurred, and I was involved, but as I remember it I was on the sore and bruised end of the exchange.

On other notes, I turn 30 in August...what month is your B-day Justus? Atlantia is soon to be full of old knights once again.

That's what I keep telling myself... as long as I keep getting carded for beer... it doesn't matter if I'm actually in my mid 30's.

I think that's a brilliant idea and I'm really curious what the turnout will look like. If you hold it early enough, it could be a nice farewell party for Dags before he joins the ranks of the elderly :D

Yea Vitus you can count on most of our boys from the House/Warband making it out.
I am sure we can bring some stuff for the party as well.

Provided I can be there, I'm in, and every other fighter in my household is under 30, and I'll send them all over to this thread. :D

Found out we will be at Pennsic, so if I can get some time free, would love to participate.

Be more than happy to help, just remind me before Pennsic.

Would send some of my guys, but well, I dont think I have anyone that is under 30. :)

Will have to check the ages of some of the guys who fight with me, but are not my squires, but pretty sure the one I am thinking of, is over 30 also.

Heck out of my squires, only one is younger than me. :p
