New style katz hilt and pommel for rattan

Post by Stefhan »

Just to get feed back on how they look. The next step of this is find brass ends that work with these hilts. The pommels are almost there....a little more tweaking, mostly just to make them look nice, but they work real good as is.
The hilts are socketed for both 1 1/2" and 1 1/4" ........what do you think?

I really like the tighter twist on the katz hilt. Looks alot closer to the extant ones. Good job.

Irish,
Thanks! I agree with you. I realy like the way these turned out. The only thing next with these is brass ends. Now for a twisted and textured solid bar style. Also another style pommel for the katz to mix and match sets.

Murdock,
Thanks as well.

Charles,
The hilt is $45 and the pommel is $30 right now. These prices are going to change at some time soon. The place I get my steel from tells me there will be a 7% incress in price in the next week or so and another in June some time.
Thanks

Chello!

Right out of my period by about a 150 years, but I could give a damn...that's just too plain gd-sexy not to use. I need to make a good short sword anyway.

Definitely interested, but it's going to be about 2-3 weeks before I can order...gas prices ar starting to slow me down.

Vermillion,
Thanks! I will PM you on this later but lets say some jigs but lots of hand work. The twisted hilt is realy almost twice the work as the standard hilt....but it looks so good.....lol

Snaebjorn,
Well I could make my simple cross hilts with the twisted stock and ball ends It probley would work better for you time frame. I am trying to work on some wheel pommels as well that would go with an erly set. The time frame you have for getting on fits so I might have a proto done when you want a set. Just e mail me at my gmail address and I will get back to you when I get something.
Thanks

Those would be pretty to use as a tsuba(sp?)....would look much better then some of the aluminium and leather atrocities people put up with....Especially if they placed some brass in the openings....And of course a must for all the landshnekts(sp?)

Kelly,
I had an erly style of Katz hilt made of 1"flat stock that looked good for that and there are a few running around out there being used as tsubas.
I also had a tsuba hilt made of a stock item from an ornamental iron company.....they stopped making them.....and it was to hard to reproduce...
Mabey I will look at comming up with another style of tsuba...humm?

Audax,
Thanks!
