Been searching everywhere and I cannot find solid documentation for a 1 handed ax used during the 3rd crusade time frame by a serjant in the Templar order.

Anyone please point me in the right direction?

If you can plausably explaine the use of the arms/legs/body together, then yes - as long as the armour Laurels agree.

:) Yes which is why I would disqualify myself... I'm going to go do some more research and try to refine my documentation. It's a lot harder to document what you already have rather then to armor to what you can document! I'll be so happy when my Rene de Anjou suit is done...

there is still enough time to authorize with a two handed axe, I think you will be glad if you do.

Drogo,

3rd Crusade is not my area, but an option is to look at who you were fighting. It you lost your sword in battle and picked up a weapon from the field...

Just make sure you can speak intelligently about, and document what you're weilding.

Part of this is to educate each other!
:)

Greetings,

I built and fought with my very first axe last night.

I seriously need more practice.

Axe's are funky. I always club people with the handle like I have a sword.

They are fun though.

Agreed. Axes are fun and funky. I built a five footer to cut my teeth on. I had a lot of fun and learned a lot, but definitely payed the price for it this morning.

BUMP! to keep this on peoples mind.

I'll be fighting by's or pick-ups for this one. This weekend I was reminded that I traded away my 16th century stainless gauntlets for partial payment of 15th century gauntlets. It's too many compromises in my book and I don't feel I fit the spirit of how this tourney was intended.

Best of luck to all those who attend it.

Next year make it a mace and shield tourney and come hell or high water I'll be in a full Rene de Anjou spring-steel harness with crest and matched 3" rattan klobben. :)

(maybe I can borrow 16th century gauntlets for this year)

Hee hee .. I'm looking at revamping mine to a full mid 14th spring steel transitional built around my Patrick Thaden's spring face plate this upcoming year as well ... I'd love to match you out there if we go for maces this next year!

In the mean time, would these be o.k. to use for your harness this year? I'll bring them along and be at the Cot30. You're welcome to use them during the tourney ...

WoH was a great time!
Axes of the Ages saw some fantastic fights and talented axe work.
The level of peoples kit is getting true;y exceptional!
(I hope to post pics soon).

Next year we're thinking either Hammers/Mauls/Maces

or

Pointy sticks under 7' with sidearms under 1'.

We'll know by December!

I get sent to Valhalla by the deft axe work of Saburou with about thirty seconds left. It was a good day to die.

Thank-you for the enjoyable tourney. It was my first time and a lot of fun. Thanks also for posting the pictures to Flicker.

Have you considered putting at least one picture of each fighter on the main web site? This way people can see what the standard is for the tourney.

Everyone with spears next year? It's historical to almost every time period...for that matter when are spears NOT part of the historical record for any location?

Some of the pics have bad lighting, some have weapons in strange places, most of the fighters are not wearing gauntlets (I'm pondering putting some of those up as the gauntlet is oop for may of the kits - BUT the idea is that this is the FIGHTING kit resourse, and you need a gauntlet to fight polearm).

Some pics will get up pretty soon.

Hey, listen D, you said the concept for the photos was "Osprey illustration". No stainless gaunts in my samurai Osprey books!

Also, can you post full details on the winners? I know the tourney winner, but who officially won the opening melee and the "best kit" prize?

Sab - you have a bargrill.
Same exception we make for the gauntlets.

Kudos to those who go the extra mile to make them less noticeable.

Drogo, the one handed axe was in use during the entire Crusades period. YOu can rest easy using one.

That's why I took off my gauntlets and batting gloves.

Thanks to everyone who voted for my kit btw, I appreciate it. I honestly did not think I stood a chance in winning. So many nice kits out there.

This is what the SCA should look like! Great kits all round with minimal departures (and almost all I saw were for safty reasons) and all pass the "10 foot rule" with most passing the "5 foot rule". Now if some one would do a Warriors of Fantasy tourny and get all the fantasy SCA kits out there to look this good!

The tournament was a lot of fun. It was also awesome to see so many period kits. Kudos for D for pushing the society closer to the dream.
