A video of an affair of honor
Gentles,
I have a public thank you to offer Baron Allejandro. He helped to make my pennsic wonderful, but also make it great for my newbies.
While at pennsic this year, I had four campers in my camp that were not just at their first war, but also thier first event.
This is a video of the culmination of a long play of schtick involving His excellency and myself. It included a five bout series between myself and his excellency. It involved a great deal of play, including theft of all my toiletries, a really obnoxious dashiki, and a newbie telling His Excellency (in front of his house lord) that he had "forty five minutes to make peace with his ancestors".
I should point out that every single person involved in the "play" of this video (with the exceptions of the drummer, the photographer, and the videographer) was at their first event ever. This is why the "bells and whistles" are a little odd. Allejandro allowed them license to play, and they did. He was really fabulous. The "Minstrel 3:16" signs were left at home.
I should also point out that at the moment that I put my shield behind my back, I was unaware that His Excellency had a hold out weapon.
Here's a link.

That was one of the most fun moments I had at Pennsic. In several Pennsics. Thank you, Vitus. Thank you, Jess. Thank you, Freiman's newbies. Most of all, Thank You Freiman.
EDIT THE FIRST
Hah! I just watched the video! That was great! I was a total jerk!
EDIT THE SECOND
I think the funniest part is that nobody thought to yell, 'Hey Freiman, watch out, he's got a dagger.'

I actually need to thank you, Your Excellency. Because of you "Stealin' Mah Bucket", plus the smacktalk we had here on the archive (which was always forwarded to the Omega camp listserve, BTW) every single person in Omega Camp was able to play.
The big parts (delivering the challenge to you on the arrow shaft (communications), preparing the household colored shield (armory), bird dogging you around the site with runners (Ninja espionage), and things like that) were all played (and invented) by absolute first timers. I think they pulled it off with lots of class.
But even little things, like giving me a ride over to "guide" you around the site with the Dashiki, taking pictures at the duel, and playing that drum were things that got everybody involved.
You know what? There was no sniping, no politics, no drama, and no hassles in my camp this year. It isn't exactly a pas de arms with all the trimmings, but everybody got interested. It got everybody's blood flowing and made everybody think about something other than sitting around in camp drinking beer, and chasing tailfeathers.
Yama Kaminari also needs a big thank you. They were great.
You gave me and my campers the coolest war that most of us can remember.

(on Pennsic) I know that movie. It is the 13th warrior. A bunch of guys in armour that doesn't match itself or anybody elses, go on a trip and argue and get drunk and get laid and then fight Tuchux.
