There has been some confusion about the upcoming Oerthan Coronet List that was apparently published with the tournaments backwards. We have placed no weapons restrictions on the Coronet list in order to facilitate maximum entry since it is hard enough just to travel at this time of year. The tournament is planned to be in the UAA gym so contestants can wear their spiffiest armour and guarb comfortably this winter. About 14 couples have contacted Us so far which isn't bad for a Winter Coronet. This is Her Highness's letter:
There seems to be some confusion about details for the List for Coronet, and hopefully I can clear some of it up.
***********
First, there are *three* different tournaments that day:
Coronet Tournament - The heavy weapons tournament used to determine Our heirs. This will be a standard Coronet tournament, by the standard rules of the list that will be proclaimed to all in court by Magda, the Principality Marshal, just prior to the beginning of the tournament. Yes, you may use your shields for this tournament. If you have fought in Coronet before, this will be the same format, no changes.
Roses Tournaments - Optional tournament open to all authorized fighters, whether they fought in Coronet or not. Heavies have one tournament, rapier fighters have a separate tournament. You do not need a consort. It is called the Roses Tournament because it is fought in the Queen's honor.
** Heavy fighting for this tournament only will be shieldless. That means you can use two-handed weapons like spear, pole axe or great sword, or you can use two weapons, such as florentine (two swords), two maces, sword and dagger, etc. If you have a left hand full gauntlet, please bring it. We realize many fighters only have half gauntlets for their shield hands, so those who have full gauntlets are requested to share and if possible to bring extras. This tournament is less formal, so you have an opportunity to play around and try something new.
**Rapier fighting will follow standard rapier rules and conventions. There is no prohibition against bucklers.

Second, We requested that you let Us know if you plan to fight. This is mainly because We need a head count. We need to know that you have a consort. We do not need to know your membership expiration date or anything else. We aren't checking up on you or anything of that sort. We just need to make sure We've counted you in Our numbers so no one accidentally gets left out of some of the things We have planned because We run out of something.
************
Third, We think folks are getting confused by a message that came out in the last week or so from the Society Seneschal. He posted that the BoD (Board of Directors) for the SCA is considering a rule change that would require you to have proof of membership through the end of the reign before you could enter the List.
This is not the current law. It is a proposal sent out to the populace of the SCA for feedback and comments. I believe the current law states that you have to be current on the day of the tournament. If you win, however, and your membership lapses during the time of your reign, the SCA will boot you out of your reign. They recently did that with a king and queen in Midrealm and the Crown tournament had to be held all over again...and I think they had only lapsed for something like three days while the check was in the mail. It cannot lapse, not even for a day. So if you win, it's a good idea to go ahead and renew your membership right away just to be sure you don't risk lapsing. But you do not have to show current membership through August in order to compete in the List.
When you sign in, the Minister of the Lists will need to see your authorization card and membership card to verify your eligibility, and will need to see your consort's membership card as well.
************
The autocrats have the full schedule, but here are the critical items for Saturday the 17th for those who are competing in the List:
10 - 11:30 - Fighters and consorts sign in
12 noon - Opening Court (in armor!!!)
Fighting will start immediately after opening court, hopefully around 12:30 if all goes well.
If there are other question, please ask!

calendar
I see that We have a spiffy new calendar but the links to the event flyers are not working yet so:

And more contest details are at:

There are serious weather issues such as high winds and glazed ice roads so be careful and use your best judgment.

Thanks to Master Khevron and Baron Griffin of Winter's Gate (et others) for these photos.
Next summer the plan is to combine Coronet with West Kingdom Coronation (Purgatory) in Anchorage.
