A gorgeous site and some not commonly found aspects of SCA combat such as equestrian melee and jousting as well as barrier fights and other fun stuff. It's short but a nice vid and hopefully encouragement for you guys to come visit.

I saw that yesterday on youtube. I clicked the link for more information and the website still had 2008 info posted?

Looks like a fantastic event.

It will be held again this April, 24 - 26 in Austin, TX.

They may not have one next year because of the huge amount of work involved so it may be an every other year event.

Another cool thing is the site owner (Richard Garriott aka Don Shamino aka Lord British aka That kooky millionaire who went up into space) has also built a scale replica of the Globe Theater for plays. It was very cool to hold Court on the stage of the Globe and then watch a performance of "Taming of the Shrew".

It's a really great event.

That was some of the best of what the SCA has to offer!

The final pass in the jousting was with balsa lances. (With dispensation from the neccessary powers of course). Slowly but surely...

Awesome. Watching it brought a smile to my face.

Nice and I really liked the passings with lances- I do think I saw Master Terafan Rhys Greydragon on horseback , and again in the last pass- I would not be surprised to see him doing this-as a man of numerous talents and really a man on my list of " really awsome dudes".

I am curious to know if that was SCA legal full contact jousting, my knight marshel told me that kind of jousting didn't exist for safety reasons, is he wrong?

Robert answered that, the Balsa jousting in the SCA was a special exception. Foam tips are the norm.

All SCA, not a bit of renfaire anywhere in it.

Then my knight marshel was wrong about there being no full contact jousting in the SCA, cool.

Though we of the East Kingdom Equestrians are working to change that...sigh someday

There isn't except with foam tips or on an experimental basis with balsa tips.

Actually, it is on Ansteorra's Kingdom calendar for April 9-11 2010. Once the calendar is open for 2011, we'll plug those dates in as well.

We continue to have wonderful Kingdom support for the event and plan on continuing to host it. It is a fantastically fun event.

Yes, the SCA's Equestrian officer, Yassmina, has allowed a few balsa demonstrations over the years. The two riders in this video are Sir Alexis le Bouche and Master Terefan Greydragon.

We are also coordinating to have another balsa demonstration at the end of the jousting tournament a Gulf Wars this year as well...likely only with Alexis and Terefan as well.

Don Shamino has also built a fort for melees as well as ship (rigging and all..I'll try to figure out how to post some pictures later). For this "Lysts at Castleton" The Baron's Men (an Ansteorran Shakesperean company) will be staging "The Tempest" but between the ship and castle instead of inside the "Curtain" theater.

That is correct. We are in the process of updating the website with the 2009 information. This is the 4th year we've produced this event (keeps getting larger each year) and the overall info is the same...primarily only the date info will change.

What really hurts is that I will have to miss it. I would love to be King at this one but I owe the rest of the kingdom the Royal Presence as well. So my Queen and Heirs will get to go and I'll be attending the Barony of Bonwicke.

I love Bonwicke and all our people. But, damn.

You can always tell which even Master Terfan is at even if you don't ever see him, by his beautful tent (or empire).

I can't belive he has not recieved and offer into the Chiv as of yet
