So Why Does 'Period' = Non-competitive?

For those of us who wish to talk about the many styles and facets of recreating Medieval armed combat.

Ever been stopped while driving nin harness?

I want to see that police officer's face. :) Or, ideally, be a fly on the wall.

"Well, officer, it's additional protection as well as the airbags" :)

Allot of our personas, particularly ones that would have primarily fought on foot, had/used equipment, weapons and training designed for fighting in large formations or groups. I’ve noticed many times this does not translate over very well into one on one SCA tournament fighting. So if you want to be “competitiveâ€

No, I've never been pulled over, but I have gotten gas, a spicy chicken combo, or something else, and raised an eyebrow or two.

Because my harness is not optimized for solo donning, I get dressed up before fighter practice, and then drive there in harness (that ought to tell you how encumbering it is--which is to say not), which also has the benefit of allowing me to take the field first and make the most of the limited time on the field.

My harness does not restrict me. It is awesome.

Does anybody else have that scene from Last Samurai in their heads when they read the first bit, and then he gets in the car and it gets all Monty Python? No? Just me?

I've gone into the DMV in armour...
I had to stop after a school demo, and they had no place to change...
They loved it. The woman at the counter just cocked her head to the side and stared at me, eyebrows raised, as everyone watched to see what would happen. I looked at her and said "What? Everyone says the DMV is a rough place... I just dressed for it."

I could have asked for my class 1 license, and they would have given it to me... that made their day.
