Just wanted to apologize if my post was mis-understood.
I WANT people to watch. I don't mind if they talk smack, it's like watching football and screaming at the TV.
What I think is rude is people calling others shots from the sidelines and then worse talking trash about the person later without ever speaking to the person talked about.
Hell, I think if you leave the field of a fight you're IN with a question and don't address it with the other fighter then that it's over and say no more of it.....
So...I'm not dissing people who watch, or watch and talk, or watch and brag how bad ass they are and what they would have done.
I AM dissing people who talk trash about a fight(er) they weren't in, didn't feel, and didn't know jack about.
And, whack that guy who has your legs. Twice!

Lion of Irnham - Martial undertaking should never be a lowest common denominator endeavor.

Only time I've ever really done that was when someone (a Peer from another Kingdom) take a leg shot that was hard enough to collapse his leg, crease his steel thigh armour, make him lose his balance, and almost fall on his ass...but he called it "light".
I called it "bullshit".
But...that's just me.
Aside from that...yeah, I agree with ya.

I understood ya, Leo.
And yeah its annoying. I sometimes say something to whoever is saying it, but have found, most of the time I am just wasting my breath.
So now I tend to only say something to those who should know better, specially my guys. They know better than to armchair, cause they know we will have a special practice if I hear the bullshit.
I cant say I have looked a little iterested, if I see a shot land, that looks good. But I dont say anything. Specially when I know, 100 things can happen between someone hitting someone, and what they feel to make it not feel good.
As a spectator, my job is to watch and enjoy. As a combatant, my job is to hit you, its your job to determine if its good enough. I am not going to waste my energy caring if you do or dont.
Learned a long time ago, that me caring about that, usually got me killed, cause I let it get to me, and make bad decisions. Now, I just keep swinging, till you either say good, fall down, or you kill me. One of those 3, is a clear indication, on whether a shot is good or not. :p

I nip armchair quarterbacking in the bud when I see it in folks I know, especially if they are newbies I've brought in to the SCA. There are so many ways a shot can look good, yet not be, that it isn't worthy to speculate from the sidelines, yet alone the list field.

It's funny, even in video you can do this. I was watching some practice footage with my knight a couple of weeks ago. There were a few passes where he said "You killed him twice there!" Then we would watch the video in frame by frame and my opponent was in the right every time.
(These comments weren't about the foce of a shot, just the placement.)
Video in slow motion doesn't lie, yet even that can't tell us if a shot landed hard enough with no extenuating circumstances.

Men trying to impress women always say the most amazing things. I used to play harp as a pass-the-hatter at the big So. CA ren fair.
There were many times when a guy would walk by with a lady and she'd say "Wow, that is beautiful instrument, what is it?"
Their very authoritative replies rarely included harp. Most often they said was either a lyre, lute, or fiddle.

Ya know .. I'm really really torn on this ...
I might not be the greatest fighter out there .. but at the same time calling out some of these caterwals does provide fun ...

Be female.
Put on a dress, white belt and chain.
Go to a party and say, 'Ohhh!! You fight! Will you tell me about fighting?'
One of two things will happen. There will be an awesome discussion of skill, technique, and great stories about heros, or you'll need to remind yourself that sometimes the idea of 'fighting' is different than putting on armor and striving against worthy opponents.

I like the "I fought for a month or two about seven years ago"..followed by "Your throwing your blows all wrong and you should not bother using a piercing tip since its not chivalrous"
Say what.
Say what.
