Seeking Female Fighter pics...it's not what you think

My wife has at last decided to return to armored combat, but is in need of inspiration. I would be grateful if the collective wisdom of the Archive could post some pics of female fighters that look good in their kits to inspire her and help her realize that she can engage in SCA combat without looking like a troll.

So, if you've some pics of women in armor, you can help me get my wife back into the game by posting them here!

Thanks much,

Dietrich

Here is Kolfinna, Her Majesty, soon to be Her Grace... Early period coolness. http://wiki.caid-commons.org/images/Kolfinna_kottr.jpg

Here is a website she help develop, which should be pretty inspirational for any female fighters:

Hope that helps!

Awesome. You guys rock.

And thanks Cunian, actually you were one of the sources of inspiration for Sarah!

She was impressed to see you fight when we visited the Ponte Alto practice, and she saw you fighting that guy at Ymir who is like 8' tall!

Thanks all for the pics, I'll show them to her when I get home from work, hopefully this will close the sale.

And then it will be off to the For Sale boards to start getting a new kit together for her...

Baroness Ianka - 4 ft 10 and 3/4th inches tall - and when I grow up I want to be just like her -

You could send her over to the Girl's Club forum too. There's lots of female fighters and great advice there.

My Lady Alheydis is also squired to Master Gwenllian Rhiannon of Dragon Keep. I'll see if we have any pictures of her.

Ulrich is apparently having a modesty fit and not posting pics of his squires, Leyli and Ashildr.
Also, someone should find pics of HRM Sven's squire Ciar from Caid, Duchess (really Princess) Ariel of Calontir and Duchess Eanor and Sgt. Kope from the Midrealm. I think there are some good kits among that crowd as well.
I think all the women in our retinue currently are either heavy or rapier fighters.

I really, really want to know why every St. Colin's pic is of the member walking menacingly towards the camera a la Resevoir Dogs. Do y'all just hate cameras or something? Or are you just That. Cool.

Thanks all for the great pictures. My lady found them very motivating--but she still hasn't made her mind up. Sigh.

Ultimately the motivation for this has to come from within, so I'm not going to push her one way or the other. She's an authorized fighter, so it's not the fear of the unknown holding her back. Sarah's fought with me in hard-hitting kingdoms, so she knows that this isn't a particularly dangerous sport.

I don't mind if she decides not to get back into it, the thing is she actually has a good deal of talent. She authorized a few weeks after starting, and got several kills in her first melee (War of the Wings 07).

It's also just a fun activity for us to do together.

Anyway, if the denizens of the archive have any 'pull' methods of motivation--I'm trying to avoid the 'push'--I'd be grateful to hear them!

Cheers,

Come up and visit again sometime, maybe later in the spring. Or plan on Sapphire - lotsa fighting it looks like.

Perhaps you could assemble a loaner kit - that happens to also fit her. Loaner stuff that fits the smaller fighter is often unavailable. And you should take it to events - because someone might need it. That way, should the will to play happen, the means to play will be there.

She might be okay with just fighting informally with you, and worry less about it conflicting with taking care of the kid that way. It's hard to fight and watch small children simultaneously, even when you have a plan. Maybe ask her to partner you in some slow work or something once in a while.

Have you got a pell at home? A lot of people like the chance to whack a pell, even if they aren't planning to go all the way and fight. Small children love them too.

Dunno - just some thoughts.

Broinnfinn isn't just beautiful and well-dressed, her husband is a freaking awesome guy and she is the greatest female fighter I have ever seen.

What is it specifically that is keeping her from making a decision?

If you can get your kids interested in watching you fight, the issue of childcare can be a lot easier. My daughter is fairly clingy (she's 2), but the one time she'll consent to a sitter with no complaints is when Rhys and I are both in armor. Then she just looks at us and says "go fight." Which is pretty motivational on its own.

I'm not quite as fancy, but here's a profile of my rig.

http://www.keradwc.com/2008_sca/1109_queenschampion/source/18.htm

Best of luck to you both.

We will definitely come visit again--I'm sure that business will carry me up to DC again, and one of the advantages of not wearing much armor is that it's easy to travel with.

Good points about childcare--in our case, I often take our warlike 3-year old boy to fighter practice with me and he requires minimal supervision. At the event last weekend, he actually tried to take part in the melee while lugging a 9-foot war spear! He also joins me for the limited pell work that I do (I mostly just do slow work and practice technique, rather than hand speed), and may well be accused of hitting excessively before the age of 8.

As for what it is specifically keeping her from making a decision? Indecisiveness? I really don't know.

But I think a good plan is the one suggested: invest in an extra kit that just HAPPENS to fit her, and be sexy-looking, and so if she is in the mood to go at it she can.

Thanks. You inspire me and make me blush.

I am coming back from a shattered fibula, and now I will have to try extra hard.
