It was a basic show and tell for Heavy Rapier and Cut and Thrust.
We went over the basic form, targeting, and weapons/armour of Heavy Rapier as it is today. We did some fighting to display how it has changed from 15 years ago.
There is ALOT of mis-information on what Heavy Rapier is, in Calontir, so this was a chance to show Calontir how the style has progressed.

(on Pennsic) I know that movie. It is the 13th warrior. A bunch of guys in armour that doesn't match itself or anybody elses, go on a trip and argue and get drunk and get laid and then fight Tuchux.

For my part, that's true. I attended purely from an interest in observing the Calontiri people and their reactions. Having heard nothing but horror stories about Calontir's reaction to rapier, I was curious if that was true in reality.
I'm pleased to say the stories are at the very least vast overestimations.
From eavesdropping around our little island of 16th-century poofiness, I heard nothing but stuff along the lines of, "That's pretty frickin' cool." The questions asked during the demo were polite and pointed, and the answers equally polite and informative. Cheers!

It may be that those to whom 'fencing' is the anti-thesis of Calontir just didn't show up to either the demo, or Lilies.

Oh man I thought everyone by now was on the wagon with not using modern fencing weapons. If they really want to use a small, period fencing weapon they could go and buy a "small sword" which is pretty courtly and foil like while still not looking like...a foil.

Well, "allow" and "use" are two different things. Caid allows epee and foil, because we try to adhere to the base corporate rules as much as possible, but no one really uses them. I haven't seen one in a list in years, and only seen them at practice when training new youths basics.

Same here in Atlantia. We allow both epee and foil, but outside the youth program I can't remember the last time I saw one on the field.
Epee is still allowed in some kingdoms, but for the most part the "known world" has moved to schlager or repro rapier as the standard.

Foils are still allowed at a Society level, and listed as allowed in 6 Kingdoms (Aethelmarc, Ansteorra, Atlantia, Caid, Drachenwald, and the East). As Alex has said, I suspect 'allowed' and 'used' are different, but they're certainly not banned.

One of my cadet sisters brought me an Epee she got in Atlantia and it felt like a feather. We were swishing it around like a composer's wand.
I'm happy Rapier has gone from modern fencing weapons into the heavier rapiers we use today. They look so much cooler too and that's always important in a public spectacle.

I know, wasn't trying to be "that guy" but just happy that mostly everyone seems to be moving to it.
