I will be finding out the price but here are the specs:

6 foot and 33" pieces with a solid rod to hold them together as the join. The rod will be 16 inches long. The weight will increase by about 1 pound but it will be in the handle, so it should actually work out nicely.

Price will be higher than standard spear shafts. I will have a price soon and will post it whe I do. If it is reasonable, I will order about 100 for Pennsic. If anyone wants to put in a bulk order for your unit, let me know so I will have you covered.

Will you also have solely the rod/splint for sale?

Your Grace, when you say a pound heavier are you referring to the weight of your regular spears or your red lightweight spears?

I'm flying in to Pennsic so this subject has significant relevance.

The splint will be bonded to the short side so there will be little else to do but tape the longer side on. The splint will not be sold seperately at this point. They will be strong and should not break, so there should be little need to replace the splint.

The extra pound will be the fiberglass splint. It will make the spear weigh about 4 lbs and change when it is done.

We only have one spear. It is about 3 lbs.

The addition of the splint and the proffessional bonding to keep it in place would be another $29.

So the breakdown spears would be $68.

Would you still want one?

The other option is for me to cut them 6' and 3' and let you fiddle with putting them together for the same price as what I sell them at now. ($39)

I need your input. Would would you all want?

glueing in a splint is a lot easier then building a good thrusting tip.

I use just a little polyurathane glue.
a good 2 part epoxy or PVA glue will also work well.

If we keep the price the same, you would have to provide your own splint of course.

I'd probably opt for the splint pre-added, but I can see how people might be dissuaded by the price.

I'm actually more concerned by the weight than I am by the cost.

It would only be 4 pounds total. Most of the heavier spears out there weigh more than that. The weight would be back in your hands, which means it would seem lighter to work, much like counterweighting a sword.

Anyone else interested, or should I scrap this idea?

$68 is out of my price range. Having cut lengths available is an interesting idea though. Would you sell them at a fixed cost per length? For instance, $13/3ft, $26/6ft? Then folks could experiment with one or two splints (of their own, of course). If I recall correctly, you can have up to two splints in a breakdown spear.

To keep it cost efficient, I would offer them in pairs of 3' and 6'.

I might do half the order without the splint and the other half with the bonded splint to give folks some choice on price but then again it might not make sense, since you would have to spend that or more after buying the splint yourself.

I'm really interested but that's out of my price range. If your selling the splints by themselves I may be interested in that.

Splints interest me too. I'd rather experiment on an older spear and see if I like it than spring for a whole thing and not be content with it.

The splint would be designed to fit our spears. The diameter would be made to fit the inside diameter of our spears. In other words, you would need one of our spears to make it work for you, correctly. There would be little sense in buying just a splint without the spear that goes with it. I would not want anyone to be wasting money on something they may not really be able to use. If you want to experiment, it might be better to find a cheaper dowel.

Don't get me wrong- I want your business but I want you too be happy in the end.

I think I might do a run with the whole thing put together and see how they sell.

I am now looking at reducing the cost by providing the splint and spear pieces without the proffesional bonding to keep the price down a few bucks. You buy the epoxy and can put it together yourself.

This should bring the price down about $10 each.
