Reviews on my recent transactions

Post by gotzrichter »

This has been updated as of 10/6 -- additionally I added some pics.

Recently I've ordered nearly 2 complete kits. One for myself, and one for my lady. I thought I would let you all know about my experiences with each of these transactions.

Source: http://www.medievalcollectables.com/
Item: http://www.medievalcollectables.com/p-1 ... beson.aspx
Cost: $72
Review: I received this item on time, and as described. I'm not sure I could have found many better deals for the price. The gambeson has enough padding to be protective, but is light enough that you're not going to die of heat in it. The lady is very pleased with this product.

Item: Gauntlets
Cost: $80
Review: Received item. They're a bit rough, but satisfactory for the cost.

Source: Armourer Eric
Item: Steel Arm/Elbow Protection
Cost: $~80
Review: Pending (Waiting on item) -- It's starting to get pretty late on these.

Source: http://iotcusa.com
Item: Lorica Segmentata
Cost: $90
Review: I received this item extremely fast! I was also pretty surprised at the quality. I was expecting something really cheap that wasn't going to hold-up for more than a year or two, what I received was a very nice peice of armor that should hold up for years to come.

Item: Thrusting Tips
Cost: $5
Review: The communication on this transaction was fantastic. The product is great, and the price was right. I will definitely do business with eirik in the future!

Item: Gambeson - http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=3 ... =596779318
Cost: $100
Review: The shipping took some time (came from the Ukraine), and I had a but of trouble with communication, but the product more than made up for it. The material is very vibrantly colored, and the product is very well manufactured. I love the extra straps on the arms to strap my armor to! This is definitely one of the highest quality items I own.

Item: Aluminum/Stainless Gothic Armor

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=3 ... =596779318 (More Pics Coming)
Cost: *undisclosed* :P
Review: Received my armor in the mail today. My first impressions are pretty good. It's a beautiful piece of work! I did notice some pretty deep-seeming scratches on a couple pieces of the armor, but that's bound to happen when I use it anyways. The communication was great, but actually getting the product took a very long period of time. If you want quality work, I'd definitely recommend.

Item: Laripipe Hood
Cost: $60
Review: I was disappointed with this item. I paid double the cost to add some basic dagging to the bottom. Was a bit expensive for the quality of material and lack of articulation (for lack of a better work, it was 2 peices of cloth sewn together, most patterns I saw were made of more peices to allow the laripipe to fall better.) Additionally the opening for the face is extremely large while the "skirt" is extremely tight. It just doesn't seem to sit right.

Item: 2 Sword + Shield Baskets
Cost: $40
Review: I received these VERY quickly. The communication was excellent, and the quality met expectations. For the price, I couldn't complain.

Source: Otto
Item: Barrel Helm + Gorget
Cost: $80
Review: Pending (Waiting on item)

Source: M. Suprovich
Item: Sallet + Bevor (SCA Legal)
http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=3 ... =596779318
Cost: $400
Review: Pending (Waiting on item) ... Maxim's communication has been great. There is a bit of a language barrier, but he has done everything in his power to make this transaction a smooth one. I plan on buying more from him in the future.

What gauge is the Lorica Segmenta? My understanding is it's 18 gauge and we are looking for 16 gauge.

Thank you for your patience. I got hit with a bronchial allergic reaction that kicked into my first ever asthma attack. I've been essentially on my back since Tuesday. I receieved my new supply of tips Friday, and your order will head out tomorrow.

Not a problem at all Eirik. :) I'm in no rush for the tips. I get bronchitis every year, and have asthma, so I feel your pain!

The segmentata states it's 18 gauge, but it definitely seems thicker. I've bashed the hell out of it with a rattan, and it seems to be handling the hits. Also, I know a lot of people don't recommend over 18g for a segmentata because of the weight. The one we have got weighed in at 19 lbs.
