FS: Bascinet and other bits

Post by sidhebaap »

For sale:

Bascinet, onion top, mild steel, center hinge grill. Maker's mark is a crowned R. I'm not sure of the thickness - 14g, maybe? Unpadded, about 27" circumference at the brow?

Gorget, aluminum and leather brigandine. As padded, fits a 17" neck, but could go a bit larger. (Really pretty nice, imo)

Stainless shield boss, from mrks. 6" inside, 7.5" with flange. 2" deep or so.

Aluminum sword basket, and mild shield basket - as shown.

Archer's knees, plastic. 18" top to bottom, about 6.5"-7" across the knee.

Open to offers on any of the pieces, but would prefer to identify the maker on the helm.

And here's the maker's mark on the helm. I thought it was Mandrake, but an "R" doesn't seem to corroborate that.

[Removed, since we seem to have agreement that it's Mandrake's.]

That one of the helmets Rod made when we were working on his raising skills. Definitely a Mandrake.

Largely, open to suggestions. I've been saying $350 for the helm, and $50 for the boss, so far.

I'm interested in those plastic archer's knees if they are still available.

Whonew's gauntlets are definitely worth it; in fact, they're a steal for that helm.

I really like the lines and would be tempted to put in an offer myself, but (1) I'm broke and saving up for mail tailoring; (2) none of my other kit's German; (3) I'd have to replace the bar grill with a WMA klapvisor; and (3) I'd have to drill and install holes for vervelles and a period lining - with no shop.

Quick Transaction Review

Post by Fulk »

Hi all,

I brought the gorget. Easy transaction once price was determined. It was mailed usps before I made the payment.

Thanks!

All, I contacted sidhebaap about purchasing this helm for my man at arms. His reply came quickly and also pointed out another helm for sale on the archive that was in the same price range. My man at arms decided to go with the other helm. Basically he talked himself out of a sale but proved his character as an honest man. Thanks man.
