I will continue to try to contact him. I'm not out a lot of money but it is the principle of the matter. I just hope he contacts me before he ships out my order since I have moved (twice) since the order was placed.

On another note, I have gone ahead and ordered a different helm so I am still out swinging.

Except that if you look above my post you will see there are people specifically waiting on the goods they bought from otto, before they can fight or go to a war.

This is unacceptable thinking. A fair number of people bought stuff from him last summer, and it is almost _THIS SUMMER_.

If you need stuff that you bought from otto, waiting on it is a bad idea. Buy it somewhere else so you can get yourself/yourfriends on the field.

When and IF his stuff arrives. Sell it. Give it Away.

Dont wait on it.

And there's the rub for some people. They may have already spent the money they allotted for such purchases and now either cannot or will not spend more. I think this should be highlighted to those who would take others money. Someone now is either unable to or unwilling to part with more money and can now not participate due to their inability to provide the service that was paid for in good faith.

DeCalmont got my story nailed down. Im new to the SCA and someone sent me here and to Otto. I used the extent of my disposable income on a helm... now over nine months later I really don't have any extra money, its been a tight year for everyone, and now I don't have a helm and the loner one I was using is no longer available so I have no choice but to wait and hope I'll see a helm before the summer is over so I can get out onto the field.

Otto if you read this please let us know what is going on...

This. The time of my being able to use my loaner helm is quickly coming to an end.

I'm really in the same ship as you guys. I ordered my helm and a lot of other things during his sale and spent a little over 200 and that was all the money I had to buy a helm with. It's going on close to a year now and I've only gotten him to respond a few times by emails. This is the second time I've been screwed on this forum for a helm. The first just wasn't made to the specs I told him I needed for my large ass head. So that was a waste of like 100 bucks and now this 200. I don't think I'll ever order anything off of this forum again because of all this. Not unless I can wait to pay until I actually get my order in the mail and it fits right.

Edit*
BTW, I like how this is his first post in this forum.

"OK, here's the folks currently for the next couple weeks.
Caspar - shipping tomorrow, sincerely hope it's not too late.
Thorgrim
Ben Gordon
Emerson
Thorne
Chris Home
Kelly Moorman
Ryan Thomas
John Chamberlin
Katie Humphreys
Gary Thigpen
Wayne Wright
others as quickly as possible after that. "

I'm pretty sure that this name is suppose to be me.. Chris Home.
It's suppose to be Chris Horne. Either way, if it was suppose to be me then it's been more like 5 months and still nothing from him.

FWIW, the archive has nothing to do with what happened. It would be more accurate to say that you have had problems with two purchases made from individuals you conatacted through this forum, rather than two transactions off this forum. I know, it sounds like semantics, especially when you're out a few hundred bucks. The other option you have is to buy face to face at events from stock on hand.

Chief - how large a head, and where is Ross, Ohio .... I have a large helm and live north of Columbus, I'd make you a good deal on it and if close enough could be face-to-face

Last I checked my head was about 26 inches around.

Ross is about 30-45 mins away from downtown Cincinnati. Or if you know where Hamilton is it's about 10 mins from there. Your probably a bit too far of a drive I'm guessing.

Don't get me wrong though, I don't blame everyone on the forum for what these people did, but I can't take the chance on throwing away more money than I already have. That's why I'll probably only make deals in person from now on.

I agree maybe it is time to get outside forces involved. I think lawyer fees would be better spent at another armorer though.

I've basically written this off, it's really cool getting scammed when your new to the sport and spend all you hobby money on a "learning experience". I don't blame the AA community I've really gotten a lot of support and really enjoyed learning about armour and the SCA. Saving up my money again and trying to track down another starter helm...

Met a couple times at Val Day. I apologize to anyone who bought on my reccomendation. He used to be pretty solid as a businessman and armorer...

He was making helms for us for a couple years, and unfortunately i saw this coming...

Anyone who starts offerring huge sales like HALF off, means they already are not making enough of a profit to stay in business to begin with, and are needing money to make last months rent. Unfortunately, the money you send them goes to pay last months rent, not the materials needed to make your helm. I mentioned that to him at the time I saw the sale go up.

Since the recession started, not only have we had no sale prices, but we have had to do a 20% across the board increase, and cut out some of our services, like shipping Every day, and our turnaround is not as fast as it was two years ago, because I dont waste money on overtime or carry a crew of five junior armorers anymore. BUT, we are still a viable business and wont be closing anytime soon.

Im sure he will show back up eventually, but i havent had any contact with him since I saw his posting where he was undercutting the wholesale prices to me by half straight to the public. He immediately lost 70-100 helms a year right then and there.

Well, my "should be done in 30 days" order turned one year old on June 25. I've already written this one off and bought another helm elsewhere. Them's the breaks sometimes.
