i have to commend you on your civility: looking back at the posts ,i CAN see how it would easily seem that we were bashing you for being anti-gun (although it IS happy to see you arent one of those evil minions of satan

There is a big difference in the attitudes concerning firearms ownership in the US vs, the UK or Aus.
Here we have the right to keep& bear arms.
there you do not. you have a privilege. you have to prove a need to own something, such as a runaway rabbit population. here we just go to the store& buy a rifle or shotgun.
some states here are a bit more restrictive about handguns, but that may change radically in the next year.
there, the Australian parliament just passed a law banning all guns of a certain type. then they were confiscated& smelted. done. over. no legal recourse.
Here full auto,& suppressed firearms are tightly regulated& taxed. I don't think you can get them at all there, however in some European countries, suppressors are required. so it varies.

Well, there's certainly a tool in this discussion, Bob...

Nah it's all good guys I should have worded my first post differently and thought about the reaction of the (obvious) pro-gun lobby that were going to be on this thread....(imagine a cat wandering into a dog pound!)....
Now if you chaps don't mind! "KER-CHAK" The zombies and hippies are getting out of control....

Holy cow! Personal attacks and death threats in rd 2! That wasn't even a flame worthy comment!
Honestly, how many of you expect to be attacked any minute now and need the gun for self defense? How many of you just own them because they're cool and it's fun to shoot? Bloody hell man, you people need to relax.

I think you are reading a little much into that. Sha-ul I believe was using the general term "YOU" and not the individual term.
As far as your comment on self defense, I consider it like a condom. It's better to have it and not use it, than to need it and not have it.

Mine was a general you. not specific.
but it says something seeing how you (specific) reacted.

My dog woke up barking and ran towards the front door at two am last night. Think I had reason to take along my pistol to check?
I think you need to realize not all of us live in safe, gun free cities.

And those that live in statistically safer places still need to be able to defend themselves for that 1 in a million chance.
The safety of my kids is paramount, even if I live in the statistically safest place on the planet, I'd still want a firearm for the off chance that I'd have to defend myself.
The general rule is, there are assholes anywhere and everywhere. I refuse to be a victim of said assholes and take my preparations.

Hmm.... let me think back and recall how many times I've had incoming rounds. Keep in mind, I have never served in the active military, nor been in law enforcement....
1) Shotgun by some nutcase in the woods that I had every right to be in, as it was owned my buddy's parents. I was about 12. (grazing wound from that one - underside of the right forearm).
2, 3, 4) Random gang violence while working EMS - handguns.
5-?) Lost track of the number while working post-Katrina, and probably wasn't aware of all of the occurrences anyway. It was at least 3. Some form of long gun, out of range to have returned fire with my .40 H&K.
Yeah, I'll keep my "toys", thank you. They will be oft-used, and exceptionally well-cared for, with a reasonable round count in reserve. I'm thankful for my small-town environment where I actually know a significant portion of the local population, and where my chances for a nasty confrontation are rather low. I'd sure as hell like to have a fighting chance rather than (yet again) duck and cover, and pray like hell. Admittedly, some of the guns I own are really just 'cause I like to shoot, and I have an affinity for military-styled weapons. The shotgun got a workout on some sporting clays this afternoon - stress-relief like I haven't had in months - wonderful since my pressure safety release valve has been about to pop of late. That particular gun would be horrific for home defense. Clays and birds, however, it's a fabulous tool. Bust in my door with intent to harm my family, though, and one should full-well expect to be on the business end of 5.56 and/or .45.
This thread has unfortunately really been derailed, and is probably headed to the political forum if it keeps up. All the guy is trying to do is legally sell a legally owned, legal to own firearm to someone who has a need/desire for it. Personally, I'd kind-of be interested, if I had the green to put towards what, for me, WOULD be an occasional-use toy. Instead, the funds are going to go towards a new Browning X-bolt, to which I'll mount the Leupold VX-3L that's sitting in my safe - a
tool which I most certainly hope will help feed my family and community next season.
Best of luck with the sale. Nice piece, good deal.

Actually, Bob, it was. Your implication that gun owners are childish (by way of the rather silly "toys" reference) was the beginning of the personal attacks. May I respectfully suggest that if you find such attacks distasteful, that you take greater care not to make them yourself.

huh. that wasn't my intention. toy being something one uses for entertainment. as far as I'm concerned, a boat is as much a toy as a xbox.
Though hearing the amount of violence you people have personally experienced is rather jarring.

I've related the tale here before, but a friend of mine would not be alive today, had he not had a .45 on him when some dude, apparently involved in a gang initiation of some sort, tried to beat him to death with a taped scissor jack handle.
Instead, the dude with the panty-hose over his head is dead.

I made it to the gun show yesterday, I'm going to have to pass on this fantastic weapon.
I picked up my shotgun. Rem 870 Express Mag.
That kind of blew my budget. Sorry to keep you on the line like that.
Thanks
