One rattan "Viking" belt axe w/runework SOLD

This is a 22" long bearded axe designed to be used with a shield or as a sidearm for a greatweapon or spear fighter.

Repeated rune phrase (on both sides of the handle) has been burned into the stained rattan handle. Runes translate to-

"Thor make my blade bite cleanly."

This style axe -when worn through the belt at the small of the back- is great for back-up use (especially during pulse charges on bridges when you are fighting spear). It's blade is designed to hook shields or enemy spear heads so that spears can be yanked out of the hands. By hooking just behind the head you can make a spearman cry with frustration.

If you are fighting spear and a pulse charge is coming, you put the butt end of your spear on the ground with the head pointing straight up, take a step aside and then you knock the living piss out of guys with this axe as they run past you. It can be worn from the wrist like a "flip mace" as well.

The head is likely to never come off, and even though the axe is wieldy and alive in the hand it hits like a MOAB. It has passed the lifting test of 30 pounds in iron plates being hung from the hook of the blade.

Beautiful, deadly and extremely useful in sword/axe combat but DEVASTATING in melee.

$70 each.

Whats the length on that axe? Does it come with the runes or is that an added extra?

Very sweet.

22" in total length

Comes with runes. If the buyer wants a different phrase that can be arranged.

First axe sells as-is.

Oh, the runes are on both sides of the handle.

I gotta admit Vitus even though your a cool guy and all Ive always looked at your stuff and thought, "Its nice but who the hell would pay for rattan weapons?"

On this one I started to think about what I could sell to afford an axe like that!

I agree. It seems bizarre, and then you ask yourself if YOU want to spend many, many hours tweaking the patterns, cutting the heads out, gluing the head layers together, sanding the edges flush, carving the skin off the rattan, knife-shaping/sanding the handle, staining the rattan, burning the runes, cutting the mount slot with a chisel, gluing the head in, gluing the reenforcement piece on, adding the foam edge and then laying on the cosmetic tape.

Many, many people would rather I do that shit instead. I mean, I could make a helmet...I don't have the time.

not only that but it really only becomes profitable in any way once you are set up with working paatterns, materials and learned skill.
sure other people could make weapons similar but when you take into account materials and learning time it costs more than people think.

I can seriously see marshals trying to bounce that. It doesn't look like rattan. Bacon looks at this axe and says "DAAAAAAAAAAAAMN!"

Every time I make a pretty weapon, I can always count on Vitus to make me look like a total n00b. I'm gonna' have to get more supplies and see if I can't kick my game up a notch...

I'm not in the SCA. I don't normally go in for the rattan weapons. They don't look right to me.

Vitus, you have changed my perspective and shown me that they can look awesome. I'm really impressed with all of your work, not just this axe.

At some point down the road I'm going to need to talk to you about pollaxes. I don't know how I'll afford the axes or the shipping, but I'll want your quality workmanship.

80 Seemed fine by me.
Once I've got anice pair of gauntlets, I'm planning to go straight to you for some beautiful weapon. The kind I'll be afraid to use in melee for fear of losing or damaging it.
And I'll gladly pay what you deem a fair price.

Until then, I gotta stick with demigauntlets and baskethilts.

You got any pics with someone wearing this beautiful weapon on their belt at the small of their back as you describe....

Thanks,
