Important Announcement from Atzinger 4/19 Update
Posted: Mon Apr 12, 2010 11:49 am
by Vitus von Atzinger
Remember when I said I was taking some significant time off to rest my hands? Well, that lasted about two days. I am not experiencing 24/7 partial numbness and total numbness of both hands during the night.
I am having trouble holding a bar of soap. If this keeps up I will soon not be able to scratch my own nads. I must rest my hands or I am looking at serious future problems that could take away my ability to fight.
In short, unless I have made a specific promise on a delivery date for a particular item, I have no way of being able to tell when yours will show up. It will show up, I just can't say when.
Maybe after a week of constant hot soaks I can get back to it full time.
I cannot afford to lose my "real job" and I cannot afford to be climbing a ladder 180 feet in the air and have my grip fail. At the very least I am looking at a broken face and maybe broken ribs, while if my hands give out at the wrong time I will get killed.
I ain't giving any refunds because I can't afford to.
However, I am willing to talk to anybody who may be interested in copying my scabbard designs for mass production. I am looking for a partner who can help me keep these items flowing without me being the guy who has to sew them together. I have absolutely no idea how to go about this, and any help would be graciously appreciated.
I am fairly certain that there is at least one guy who is on the verge of copying my patterns and manufacturing these things, and would thereby subsequently wipe me off the face of the Earth. However, this guy knows that if he does this there will be very, very ugly repercussions.
So if there is anyone out there who can tell me how to get somebody else to make these things, I would appreciate the help.

Sir Vitus,
What weight leather do you build your scabbards out of? Would it be possible to do with a sewing machine rather than by hand?

GVR and I have done some sewing with are leather shield edging and the like. I will ask him if there is some way that we might be of assistance to you. I will be attending Border Raids so maybe we could meet there and see what can be done. Please PM so we can chat.

Talk to Westland, the guy doing all the shoes, bet he could do a good "standard" size for swords and daggers. Custom stuff would be left to you then. Perhaps they will pay for the patterns.
cheers,
Leo

You do the sales & marketing and outsource the production to someone else. You do the easy leatherwork, send the pre-sewn pieces to someone else and pay for sewing.
Or outsource all the work for a smaller cut.

Get that axe done when you can. I would rather have you health enough to fight.

Have you considered the possibility of carpal tunnel?

If you just need someone with hand sewing skills to assemble let me know.

Vitus, why dont you use a leather sewing machine? A friend of mine makes Leather boots and he went to a sewing maching, im assuming for similar reasons.
I know it would be a chunk up front but wouldnt it be worth it for your hands?

I had the same symptoms and started wearing wrist braces at night until I could train myself not to curl my hands inward when I slept. Hand numbness was gone almost immediately. If your work activities are causing you to bend your hand inward (like when you "make" a biceps muscle), I'm willing to bet you actual money the wrist braces will help. I am not a doctor and all that jazz.
Can't hurt to give the braces a whirl. About $20 each for decent ones.

If it is carpal tunnel, you may find some relief using this product. It helped me a lot when too much time at the computer caused pain.

I will also chime in on the Carpal tunnel idea. What you are describing sounds a lot like what I had. I also got relief from the wrist braces.

Vitus, I work for an orthopaedic surgeon. If you shoot me your address and measurements I'll have a brand new carpal tunnel brace sent out to you on my dime. No worries.

I do not want to tell people that the pollaxes I have, have Sir Vitus' fingerprints all over them, because he wore them clean off...he worked his fingers to the bone...in-fact that hard surface is his fingernails.

Just got back from buying some braces. I will make an appointment with my chiropractor tomorrow. I apparently have both carpal tunnel and ulnar nerve impingement. I hope that the active release treatments won't be so expensive as to wipe out my already tiny profit margain.
Oh happy day.

I just realized that the way I've been sitting my arm on the arm rest of this computer chair places the arm rest DIRECTLY on my Ulnar nerve.
I mean PUSHING RIGHT ON IT.
Hmmmmmmmm.

Good luck, man. My wife recently had to have carpel tunnel and ulna nerve surgery, in both arms.
If you have to go the surgical route, it will SUUUUUUUUUCK for about 3 months.
And then you look up and realize you haven't had pain/numbness for weeks and don't remember when it started feeling so good.
Wish you could get to that part without the months of suck, but that appears to be the way it goes.

Vitus - talk to Duke Paul, he has some really good stuff on getting over these kinds of things.

Chiming in on the Carpal Tunnel bit. Had that surgery three years ago. Take care of those hands.
On a side note, I've been known to do a little leatherwork, and might be able to help you out there...ok, I've been eyballing your awesomesauce scabbards for a while, trying to figure out how to make one for myself...
Rest those paws and stay healthy

Saw the chiropractor yesterday, and he is convinced that my neck is the culprit, since I am now having numbness in my feet.
As of two days ago I am in pain all over my body, which leads me to believe that I am just having a severe psoriatic arthritis flareup.
Because I am swollen all over the impingement of my ulnar nerves could be coming from anywhere from my neck to my hands.
The cause? I noticed that I got really bad really fast about the same time that we started having record pollen counts here in the lower midwest. I have always felt that this type of chronic inflammation was somehow connected to allergies; both food allergies and enviromental.
Something is causing my everything to swell to such a degree that the impingement could be happening anywhere and everywhere at once.
I'm going to try to make my diet as minimalist as possible to see if I can't get this to stop.
I just don't see how this numbness cannot be connected to the pain I am having in my neck, ankles, lower back and major arm joints.
Anyway, I am more interested in treating the cause than treating the symptoms. I hurt everywhere...not just in my hands. There has to be a connection.

a few things that may help with alergys...
change the filters.
bathe you pet.
vacume the house.
fresh sheets and a shower prior to bed.
Pets out of the bed room.
My step mother swears by a netty pot.

Very possible. If you haven't already (or have some reason you can't), you could try Benadryl or some other antihistamine and see if there is any relief by treating it as an allergy.

Vitus, you may want to try the free 30 day elimination diet to see if your nutrition is causing you problems. You can find it here,

The shitty thing about histamine is it can wreak all kinds of havok on a lot of different body systems. If you do try the antihistamine route let us know if it works!
