I quit following the construction thread on these as I lost interest not really seeing the point. They came out awesome looking though. I am really impressed. I also want to take this opportunity to say that your work has improved amazingly since you've been here. You ran the gamut from some fairly decent looking fantasy stuff to some utilitarian, less than attractive stuff. I'm glad that you stuck out the flames of your early days here and have continued to improve and bring us stuff like this. Can't wait to see what you're doing next year.
I realize that some of this might come off as sounding like backhanded compliments but I don't mean it that way.

I need to test mine in combat, but it does exactly what it was designed to do and looking elegant in the process. It basically lets you use any type of finger gauntlets where the "demi" part is SCA legal, even if the fingers are dubious, as it gives excellent protection to the fingers, quite like a basket hilt that remains attached to your hand.
If you use finger gauntlets, of any type, get one.

It just occurred to me that with these you could wear demis and it. I fight with a gauntlet on my sword hand so when I get armed it's a PITA, to toss my shield, put my other gauntlet on and switch my sword. With this I could just switch the sword and the buckler.

Can use these in place of fingers?
use a demi and a finger shield?
besides not being very safe?

Hi Virgil, Welcome to the AA. Im not sure these shields, used with a demi gaunt would be sca legal but they might be. Its up to the marshalls. These are normally used with finger gaunts that dont have grounding fingers.
Take care

I've got a couple of questions and a request. The request first, could you put up a pic with it on a hand/stick?
I'm assuming the rivets are strap connections. Just eyeballing , it looks like maybe 4" between? How interested would you be in making a somewhat modified version of these. A little bit deeper, a little different in style?

Hi Ingvarr, My camera is down right now but theres pics of them on a hand with a weapon on the Grounding Finger Shield for Glaukos thread. The 2 inches deep measurement is taken from the rounded parts of the shields, If you measure from the arms that ground on the weapon they are about 3 inches deep. Sure I can make whatever you need just PM me with Ideas and pics if possible.
Thank you

Hi there

Hi there, The answer is that not everybody is just buying new gauntlets, lots of people already have gauntlets, some of them have fingers that dont ground, Some people just want extra protection over their fingers at certain times. Some people like to use non grounding fingers for better dexterity in one handed weapons and want the shields for using 2 handed weapons. Some people dont like mittens, Some people just like they way they look.
PS Thank you for posting that pic for me Glaukos, and for thinking of these finger shields, I think they were a great idea.
Take care

Vladimir wrote:I don't mean to bite into your sales, but I never did understand what the point of these is (within an SCA context).
Why get finger gaunts in the first place if you need to buy a shield to put over them? Why not just get mittens?
I asked for them specifically.
I wanted to be able to have the dexterity of finger gauntlets with the protection of a basket hilt. I was -and still am- intending to fight spear and shield, and have my short sword as a backup. With this, I can switch from spear to sword and have the same protection on my sword hand as I would with a basket hilt.
Having been hit in the hand a few times, I thought that having a little extra protection was nice, especially if the finger gauntlet's don't fully ground on the rattan by themselves. I think Pitbull did a great job in designing these from my request, and I am
very happy with mine. It seems to be doing exactly what I wanted it to do.

the rivet in the center?
