FS: Spangen Helm

Post by Tableau »

Hello everyone,

I have for sale a large spangen helm designed for the SCA. It is all 14g mild steel except for the brass nasal and the bargrille. It has an inside circumference of just over 29".

I'm asking for $300 plus shipping. I would ask for more, but I am still new at armouring and the helm didn't come out perfectly. As you can see in the pictures, the grill isn't perfectly neat, and the eyebrows don't quite sit snugly against the brow band. Even so, I like how it turned out.

PM me if you have any questions.

Bump. I guess people in the market for a spangen helm have a lot of selection right now.

Thanks for your kind words, everyone.

DWolfhunter, thanks for the offer, but I think I'm going to stick to my price for a little and see if it sells.

Hey guys, this is still available. It's sitting here on my desk, and I'm trying not to fall in love with it. I can't do a early period persona right now. O:

Still not much interest eh?

I was reading over Halberd's munition grade sport helm thread, and I guess I have similar questions. I'm pretty new at this.

Too close to Pennsic?
Too expensive?
Construction flaws?

Anyway, I'd appreciate some constructive criticism.

It may be a bit close to Pennsic, but I really think it is the economy. People just don't have alot of excess cash right now.

$300+shipping is not a horrible price for a spangen helm with brass accents. I would not say that it is a "gotta have it" price either. The helm is nice and if someone asked you to make a helm like that I would think that $300 would not be unacceptable.

Part of the problem with building "stock" helms is that they may sit around for a while if you are not comfortable with "bargain pricing" on them.

(on Pennsic) I know that movie. It is the 13th warrior. A bunch of guys in armour that doesn't match itself or anybody elses, go on a trip and argue and get drunk and get laid and then fight Tuchux.

Yeah, I sort of figured I was pricing this near its upper price limit, and I suspected it may take a while to sell at that price. But I don't want to undersell myself right off the bat, you know?

Now that is a nice sound spangenhelm.
Good lines, finish and the grill looks solid.
Brass bling is always nice.

I know how long it takes me to build one of thoes.
One has to work pretty cheap to let it go for $300.00
It's a tough market... one I choose to no longer compete in.

Best of luck on your sale.
